Am I wrong? I need some advice please

Am I wrong? I need some advice please

Im really upset about this:

Ok so here's the deal, we took a quiz in french and I have really bad test anxiety and so i didn't do so well on my quiz even though I knew the stuff. So while I was taking the test we were doing some past participles and stuff which is generally easy and I had spelt something wrong so I erased and corrected it before I turned it it. She returned the quizzes after about 30 minuets because I guess thats all it took for her to grade them or whatever. and I noticed that she had marked out an answer that I knew for a fact was correct. And I even checked it up against my friends paper(who got 100) and she had the exact same thing on the paper. So I thought I would go up and just tell her that she accidentally marked a correct answer wrong. So I went up to her desk and asked her very politely "I was just wondering why you marked this one wrong when it is right?" and she was quick to say "well it wasn't like that when I checked it" and she put the paper really close to her face and looked at the erase marks I had made earlier from the correction and she said "there is erase markes here...It wasn't like that when I graded it." And I was like (I wasn't rude about it) "No, I fixed that before I turned it in. So she went on to say (and I quote) " well I know that I'm not always right but I have checked these papers 100 times before and I have a really good memory so i probably wouldn't miss something like that. and there are erase marks here" and so I told her "Well I had spelled it wrong before but I fixed it and THEN turned it in" and she was like "well I will fix it this time but next time don't use a pencil because these marks look suspicious and I don't think they were there before" so she changed the grade to a 76. but then I felt really bad because she basically just accused me of cheating when all I did was try and get that ONE question fixed. So I went back to my desk and basically started crying because of it. If you could please please please give me your thoughts on this. and also, if I really was cheating I would have tried to get a higher grade that an F*ing 76. I would have told her more than just that one question was right.

Firstly, this should be in off-topic. It's not broadway related.

Secondly, I think you're over-reacting. She fixed it for you. Yes, it's annoying that she thought you were cheating when you weren't and it was her mistake, but she did correct it for you. Next time, use a pen, and this won't happen.

When I was in the 6th grade, I had skipped a bubble on the scantron so everything was one question off, and I ended up with a 6. During the test, I had circled the answers on the question packet as well..and you could clearly see that I got a hundred. When I got my test back I was upset and I brought it to my teacher's attention. She understood what happened and agreed that I got 100 and it was a mistake. But, she refused to change my grade. I would just get over it, and try and move on. re: Am I wrong? I need some advice please

You should have more respect for authority. I would pray and ask God what I should do.

You can't move it, the mods have to.

America, you're so correct. I would take his advice, Izzybeth, and let us all know how that works out for you...

I don't understand how this would be considered showing disrespect for authority. If the teacher is wrong, the teacher is wrong!!!

I'm intrigued by the fact that your French class has "30 minuets" playing while you take quizzes.

The minuet is one of my favorite (and seldom performed) dances.

Did you participate in the dancing?

I can't stand some teachers. I have a problem with authority to begin with. I do respect teachers, but as soon as they start to go on power trips, I don't let it slide.

Currently, my Italian teacher does not allow any food or beverages in the classroom (this is college).

I understand the food thing, but it's a 9 AM class. Every other class I have ever been in in my entire life (even high school) has always allowed a water bottle, let along a cup of coffee at 9 AM! My drinking coffee or water does not distract other people, does not distract her, and does not impede on her lesson plans. How, exactly, does she justify the "no coffee" rule?

Well today, I decided that I was going to get coffee anyway. Apparantly, about 7 other classmates were on the same page is me. We were all sitting there drinking our coffee, and the Hunchback of Notre Dame walks through to door and says (in her thick Italian accent) "Coffee! I see coffee! No coffee! No drinks! I catch you again and you are OUT! OUT! OUT!"

I continued to drink it anyway. If she dared kick me out of the classroom, I was going to let the fug bitch have it. I'm paying to go to school there. She is being PAID to be there. I think I deserve to have a damn cup of coffee.

*end of rant and threadjack*

But does anyone else agree with me?

Oh, I know.

My Italian teach last semester was a mess.

I had been absent the class before, and came in and asked her what the writing assignment was, and I told her that I would either e-mail it to her that weekend or give it to her next week. She said - and this was in front of the entire class - "Well you e-mailed me last night and told me you knew what the assignment was and that you would have it today. So since you don't have it, you get a 0."

I said "No, that wasn't me. I didn't even know what the assignment was until today."

She continues to call me a liar in front of the entire class and says "No. You're lying. I remember your exact e-mail. I don't forget those things."

I told her that I never sent her such an e-mail, and, above all, I didn't even have her e-mail address. I then said "Well, print out the e-mail, bring it in, and we'll see who's right."

And she never mentioned it again after that day.

What a cvnt.

re: Am I wrong? I need some advice please

I was once accused of cheating on a test- and by none other than my (former) best friend. Of course, the teacher believed her and gave me a 0 on the test. When I proved the fact that I did not cheat, my original grade was reinstated, but my friend was not. You wanna know what the grade was? 88. You'd think that if someone cheated, they would try to get at least a 95. Some people have no common sense.

re: Am I wrong? I need some advice please

Heh, I remember when I was in the 7th grade, my friend and I would cheat on every Spanish test. And we'd always get in the 70's anyway. I know cheating is horrible and I don't do it anymore, but it was funny at the time.

re: Am I wrong? I need some advice please

I cheated in Spanish my senior year of HS. I was so lost in that class...I never paid attention and didn't care...I just wanted to get out of that school.

>> I think I deserve to have a damn cup of coffee

Yup, but if you spill it on the floor/carpet/whatever, will you be cleaning it up, or will you leave it for the staff? If this is a language lab with computers in it, are you ready to pay for replacing the keyboard if you spill coffee on it?

When I taught, I allowed my students to bring food and drink into the classroom *only* if they took their trash with them at the end of the period and if they were prepared to clean up any messes they might make in the process. If they couldnt accept that minimum of responsibility, then they didnt deserve the freedom.

She is indeed paid to be there. She's also paid to teach you more than just Italian: she's also paid to teach you how to act responsibly and respectfully in situations where responsibility and respect are warranted -- and face it: if you need the class, then the very least you can do is show a little respect for the instructor teaching it. Otherwise, you might as well just buy one of those self-learning tapes and then attempt the final exam on your own.

Now... as to the first post. These things are going to happen. If you changed as many answers as you say, I can see where the teacher might question when some of those changes took place. See it from her point of view -- *then* vent at BBW.com. But try to understand that it's not just about you: she has plenty of other students who have the same needs as you, and take it from one who has been there: after a while, every student looks like every other student. You're not so special that she would have it in for you; she probably doesnt care either way. So accept that you dodged a bullet here thanks to her good graces and move on.

Exactly what advice do you need? Clearly the situation was handled and over. I bet the teacher doesnt even remember it.

re: Am I wrong? I need some advice please

Well, I don't really believe that my Italian teacher is there to teach me life lessons - she can't even communicate effectively in English, let alone instruct us.

No, it is not a language lab. It has no computers, and it is not even carpeted. If it did have computers, I would never even think of bringing a drink near them.

I am 21 years old, and responsible enough to know that if I spill the drink I had, it is my job to clean it up. That's common sense, and I would never expect anything different.

And I do have respect for her. I do what she asks, I answer her questions, I treat her with respect. I just think she's being a little strict on the "no coffee at 9 AM" thing.

And my class is 2.5 hours long.
