Dark - these are great - thanks!
At Capitol Records recording studios, there's a picture of Judy during a session with a full orchestra. She's going full tilt - arched back, hands up, head thrown back, eyes closed. The framed print is about 3' x 5'.
Some day I'm going to steal it, but don't tell anybody.
That picture sounds amazing. Photos of Judy "in action", pouring her heart out in front of an audience or in a recording studio are some of my favorites to look at.
P.S. I won't tell anyone!

Seriously, I would love to get my hands on it! It's reminiscent of the one you have as your av, but it's a 'working' photo - not quite so presentational. You can see the orchestra playing with her in the background (remember when they used to do that?!?) and their eye's are glued to her, picking up every drop of emotion and passion that she is bringing. It's riveting.
Screw that...
There is the most FAB picture of her in one of the dressing rooms at the LA Opera. She is at her dressing table putting on her lips with her mouth partly open..... One of a kind. I guess she was performing at the DCP years ago.....
Oh, man.....

Diva - I've seen that one, too!
Tell you what, you get that one and I'll get the other, and we'll make copies for all
I would love to have either one of those photos hanging in my den.
I have the Wizard of Oz one I posted in this thread framed and hanging right now. I've had it since I was a kid and I took excellent care of it. It has extreme sentimental value for me. That movie alone has inspired me on so many levels, especially during those times when I was extremely down and out. I can only look at that album cover and it puts a big smile on my face. It's also my current computer desktop wallpaper!

Dark - this is actually my partner, AND we have half an entire room in our house dedicated to OZ 'stuff'. I believe I know where you're coming from
OMG DG! That is a treasure! I'm absolutely *in love* with that picture! Thanks for sharing it!
Oh, and here's another Lp cover that puts a smile on my face as well. The artwork is adorable!
I won't even tell you what's in Lorna Luft's dining room......

These pictures are wonderful! I love the painted covers... So very '50s and '60s. They have that same abstract style as all those popular clown paintings of the day. (No disrespect intended, but that was a hugely popular painting style back then.) It's cheesy, nostalgic and terrific, all at once.
DG--That's your partner?! What an amazing photo! I went through that (agonizing) costume and makeup every performance as the Tin Man during a run of Wizard of Oz back a few decades ago, and I had a great looking costume, but it was NOTHING as elaborate as this! I would have sworn that was Jack Haley, if you hadn't told me. Very cool!
And Diva---I wanna know what's in Lorna's dining room. I've already seen (and taken pictures with) Judy's Ruby Slippers and one of her gingham Dorothy dresses in a collector's apartment. Could it be any better than that?!?

If there was one person I could see live, it'd be her. I've heard a clip somehwere of her (and what sounds like Elaine Stritch) a few weeks before her death, and they sitting around talking. You can hear how frail she is in her voice, but her energy just didn't stop.

Oh no, best12! You bring back memories of a brown-paneled basement filled with clown paintings, needlepoints and macrame!

A brief history of my partner as the Tin Man:
Back in 1998, he was playing him in a local production of OZ. Jess Harnell (one of the most active and capable ‘voice’ talents in LA) was playing the Lion. He was/is good friends with Bill Corso, a multiple Emmy and Oscar winning make-up artist, who was putting together a tribute to Jack Dawn, the head of make-up for the OZ film. His work on OZ is considered one of the best by Hollywood artists, but there was never an Oscar category for make-up during his career, so many feel like he never got the full recognition he deserved. This tribute was being put together by all the top artists in the industry.
Well, Mr. Corso asked about the costumes being used in the production Jess was in, and Jess said he should just come see the show, because not only would he want the costumes, but the actors in them, as well – which is what happened.
So in September of that year, the main players spent days having body casts made and various tests done, all leading up to a special presentation attended by virtually the entire make-up industry. All the people who worked on the make-up and costumes for this event were Oscar winners (as well as many other awards,) and the event was featured in Make-up Artist Magazine (the industry standard for that field.)
THEN, the next year when they wanted to have a special event for the 60th anniversary re-release of OZ in theatres, they contacted all the same people. And for the premiere at Grauman’s Chinese, they shut down Hollywood Boulevard in front of the theatre, and the main cast came down the street to attend the showing and greet the crowds (it was HEAVILY attended – including Lorna, of course.)
So, that’s why I call my partner the TinMan – not only on the board, but in ‘reality,’ as well
I’ll post a couple of pics (which will be in separate posts, as I’m not savvy enough to put them all in one – sorry!)

This is my partner getting 'worked on' by Kevin Haney, an Osacar winner for DRIVING MISS DAISY - who coincidentally shared an Emmy for the make-up on LIFE WITH JUDY GARLAND: ME AND MY SHADOWS.

The main players in front of Grauman's. They waited until the movie started to take the pics in front of the theatre (there were too many people before!) so the cast didn't even get to see the showing!
Those are FANTASTIC pics, DG! And what an amazing story.
They seemed to have gotten every detail right, with one tiny quibble... Dorothy's socks and shoes! So important, and yet so "not Oz!" Everything else is pretty incredible.
The best I had was Elizabeth Dole attending our opening night. (Our production was in Kansas.)
