I'm with Sueleen. It was gratifying to see Fantasia take the title, but wasn't it startling to see all of the losers in their yellow and white outfits, doing the sort of Up With People routine? Those dreary boys, mugging and waving their hands like the hourly show at Rye Playland. Ugh. The difference between the ultimate winner and those who bit the dust early (LaToya remains the exception) was shocking.
And as Sueleen points out, we had to watch a legit talent, who can be Natalie Cole one minute, Macy Grey the next, tackle one of those faux uplift anthems with the words "dream" and "believe" intoned incessently. We heard it at least 3 times last night, and I remember nothing about it but those words and the poor gospel choir trying to make it church worthy. Funny point: what if one of those boys, the Johns, had won. Can you imagine them warbling that Dream My Believing Dream of Believing the Real Dream song???
