American Idol...coming close to the end

Posted: 5/26/04 at 2:48pmI stopped watching when La Toya London was voted off. I don't care who wins. This year's show was very disappointing.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 3:03pmI think they have learned their lesson and next years show will be handled with more care. I do think the judges started this season on a bad road with the talent that made it through.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 3:49pmI think Fantasia's going to win it but I'm still going for Diana. Fantasia is so annoying.

My thought on the judges this year is they seemed to pick a lot of people who they thought *might* develop into something, instead of picking a lot of people who seemed stronger at first.
Unfortunately, those not-so-good people didn't develop into anything. So hopefully they'll judge more what they actually see next year and not start dreaming about who has potential and who doesn't.

"Part of me hopes Diana wins only because the losers of the past years competitions have had better careers so far than the winners."
I understand (and agree) with what you mean, but Mr. Justin Guarini breakes this rule. (Justin...who?)

Yeah, really, there are only two previous second place finishers. One has done well, one is, at best, the answer to a trivia question.
Hardly a trend to bank on.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 6:25pmMatt coulda been talking about the Idol shows in other countries. I think in the first Pop Idol show oever in The UK they runner-up sold more? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I really hope Diana wins. She was so good! Her first 2 songs last night were absolutely incredible, and the last one was "pitchy".
The only song I liked from Fantasia was "Summertime." I haven't liked her from the start- I think she's kind of annoying.
Why did Jennifer and LaToya have to get voted off? One of them should have won.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 7:24pmDiana? I don't think so honey.

Posted: 5/26/04 at 9:54pmI am so happy, I'm still in tears here. She deserves every bit of success that she will get. CONGRATULATIONS, FANTASIA!!!

I'm really glad for her! She's going to have a great career.
The only thing that kinda made me annoyed at her was that she said "get to where I'm AT"...bad grammar...but that's ok- she's great!

Posted: 5/26/04 at 10:04pmim also really happy for her, i love the way she broke down then pulled it all together in her last song. and unlike past winners/contestants, i think she may actually be a star.

Posted: 5/27/04 at 12:32amUnfortunately, she will have to sing all that AI pop crap before she makes a good record. Have any of the past contestants recorded a good song? Both Kelly and Reuben's songs tonight were soooooo fricking BORING! And they both seem to have lost any joy in performing. (Not that Reuben had much to begin with.) This is the first time the best person has won. Tamyra, Clay (or Kimberly) should have won before. I hope Fantasia doesn't loose any of her spunk and personality and that the Idol Making Machinery lets her do what she does so well before it crushes her spirit.

I'm with Sueleen. It was gratifying to see Fantasia take the title, but wasn't it startling to see all of the losers in their yellow and white outfits, doing the sort of Up With People routine? Those dreary boys, mugging and waving their hands like the hourly show at Rye Playland. Ugh. The difference between the ultimate winner and those who bit the dust early (LaToya remains the exception) was shocking.
And as Sueleen points out, we had to watch a legit talent, who can be Natalie Cole one minute, Macy Grey the next, tackle one of those faux uplift anthems with the words "dream" and "believe" intoned incessently. We heard it at least 3 times last night, and I remember nothing about it but those words and the poor gospel choir trying to make it church worthy. Funny point: what if one of those boys, the Johns, had won. Can you imagine them warbling that Dream My Believing Dream of Believing the Real Dream song???

I believe that it would be dreamy!
"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW--WHAT A RIDE!!!!""

Jennifer Hudson should've won.
That Nell Carter/Macy Gray thing just doesn't sound good to me. But I think that Fantasia was better than Diana, even though Diana's persona is more gracious and humble.
