I like the seperation of guys and girls. It'll be cool when they all combine in a couple more weeks. I don't think it'll be uneven talent because there are great singers from both sides. Maybe this will prevent what happened last year when it became the American Idol of the Divas.
As for the suspense, I KNEW that when Ryan asked the top row to come down that noone from the top row would really be the one who was out. I personally like it. Its television. Suspense sells. And the contestants knew what they were in for when they joined up.
Perhaps the producers had a say on who would be sticking around so far because of who had the most air time so far but I don't think that'll be an issue for too much longer. Now, every contestant has the same amount of air time as the next contestant and America can judge for themselves. People will forget the Hollywood episodes and start picking who they want to win based on the live shows. (Though I'm on the West Coast so its not live for me. Bummer) I'm looking forward to the next weeks to come.

I agree that the producers are trying to steer the voting audience to a particular contestant....there is alot of money invested in the winner. It's very risky to sign talent this way. Last season, Jon Stevens was safe way longer than he should've been and I'm sure the record company was freaked out!
I think this show, the guys are much more talented than the girls overall, but I think there are talented people on both sides... actually, I think I already said that.
But anyway, "And some people don't even look like the American Idol". I would hope that you would be looking at the talent, not on the appearance of people, captainobvious. I guess not...

I didn't understand why they did that, either. They brought all of the guys in the top row out for no reason. Then, he just calls out Jed (or is it Jud)? I couldn't think of one reason why they would do that, other than to kill time.
They did not tell Judd that he was safe. They first told him that he did not receive the lowest number of votes.
When it came time to kick the guy off with the second lowest number votes, Judd was told along with all the guys sitting on the front row that they didn't have to stand up. They said nothing about any of them being safe.
It's all in how they word it.
I agree that it was handled terribly.

Ryan never said the front row was safe, only they wouldn't have to do the work. It was a stupid way to cut Judd, but they have to do something different. Personally, I'd like to see them do it the way they cut people on 'The Mole', with the TV screen. It seems much more suspensful than having Ryan say "You are ... ... ... NOT the lowest vote getter".
When Ryan said "Bottom row, relax", that translated into "Bottom row, you're all safe". I thought it was misleading.

True, but you know what they say about assuming...
I'm sure they realized it was misleading, that was the point. The entire point of the cut shows is to milk it for as long as possible, otherwise the show would be 20 seconds long.

The show's all about look, not really about talent. I found that out last year, and the year before that. Kelly's the only one who had the looks and the talent.
I don't like how they're doing it this year.
Instead of the final Twelve, it's more like, the final 24.
"I'm sure they realized it was misleading, that was the point."
Yeah, but there HAD to have been another way. That was just... wrong. Whose idea was that, anyway?

Sure it was misleading but they have many many many more result shows to go and they will keep doing different ways of keeping the suspense there. It keeps it interesting. Like I said, I was not mislead at all because I suspect things like this in this kind of show. Its fun to really listen to what Ryan is saying. When he didn't say "safe" and only said "relax" that's when I knew it.
I thought it was not that bad an idea to just cut Judd like that. Because if they Always tell that first person they go to that they are safe, then that cuts out the suspense of the very first "you are.....NOT out". Overall, leaving the suspense is their point. We'll see a very wide variety of suspense tactics as the shows go on.

Wait, Reuben won because he was cute?? Did the national taste in men suddenly swing 180 degrees and I not get the memo?
I mean, I personally found it hard to listen to him try to sing so I am in no way shape or form defending him, but I really don't think a 350 pound sweaty black man won because America liked his look.....
They all called him a big teddy bear. Yeah I don't quite understand it either.
Ruben won cuz he was very non-threatening and could sing his 350 pound but off!
Actually though, Ruben should never have won. Not because of Clay or anything. Frenchie getting booted was what really sealed it for him. She would've been the next American Idol and the producers definitly didn't want another girl, especially one who could blow the first winner out of the water.
