First off, it's not the reason American's are stupid, it's an example of American stupidity.
Secondly, another one that kills me along with Winslet is Barrymore - how we are supposed to applaud her for being a "real" woman - what is she, a size 4?

I remember PEOPLEs magazine did this whole big thing to celebrate Drew Barrymore losing 20 pounds or what not. I beleive her quote was something along the lines of "I hope to stay between 110 and 115 for life"
Isn't that like..unsafe? For life?

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:09pmUm, they also forgot to put in that Drew Barrymore is a bit of an idiot.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:10pmThat's so weird... I at the age of 14 weigh around the same as adult women................................

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:11pmI don't think 110 - 115 is particularly unhealthy for her, she's not tall.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:11pmYou know who we're all not praising in this thread? Liv Tyler. She spoke out about how unhappy she was at being forced to slim down to a medically unsafe weight for the LOTR films and couldn't wait to gain the pounds back. And her fabulous sister Mia who only did Celebrity Fit Club last season as an attempt to reach out to teenagers and show them that you can lose weight safely and healthily and that "ideal weight for your height" and "Hollywood's idea of thin" are 2 different things and only the first one should have any impact on your life.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:12pmI remember back when Titanic came out being ready to smack the next person I heard call Kate Winslet "That Chubby Actress."

okay is it just me or were there a couple of people on Celebruty Fit Club that didn't seem really over weight...
Rath...ah you have disproved my theory!

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:14pmyodamarie- I heard about that Titanic crap. I have pics of her in Titanic on my Kate Winslet Appreciation wall in my room..she's tiny!! I love her!! She's perfect looking! The sad thing is, they were comparing her to Leonardo DiCaprio who was SKINNY MAN back then. Sheesh.

If someone said that next to me I would have punched them in the jaw.
I forgot all about Liv Tyler.
Sally, I was like that too when I was your age. You still have time to grow, though. I was short and I weighed as much as some older women. I say I weigh pretty healthy for my build these days and I got taller. I've been exercising and eating healthy for only about a week and I already feel a difference. I feel stronger and more in control.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:20pmI am starting to work out and drink more water and eat more healthily. I want to get to my ideal weight, if its not "hollywood" thin, oh well. Life goes on.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:24pmdid i miss a national referendum on the description of ms. winslet? was this a piece of legislation that was passed by both houses and accepted by the states? did i sleep through a new amendment? no? then it's awfully foolish to blame america and americans for how one actress is perceived. but hey, why not use anything and everything as one more reasons to scream "america sucks" as that is often the pervading sentiment around here.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:26pmI have to agree with Papa on this one, there seems to be a lot of America bashing on here. I think that the current title "distorted mindsets" Is far more appropriate.

I think it was meant more in the ways of "hollywood sucks"
The hardest part is the first few days of healthy eating. Especially when you have a sweet tooth. I'm finding it much easier to avoid all the stuff that is bad for me now. Fruit is a great substitution for chocolate, especially if you have some cool whip.

If she was truly vocal about this, I'm ashamed I missed it and I am also rather shockingly proud of her suddenly...and will now support her movies.

Posted: 6/29/05 at 2:33pmShe was indeed vocal about it. It made me love her. Then she showed up at the Oscars looking like a bazillion dollars and the love was sealed.

*sigh* Why can't she at least be a really talented actress, then?
