GAH! It was opening night of a shoestring production in a tiny theatre and we were all more than a little nervous. I was literally alone on stage in nothing but boxers and a sheer negligee. The director hadn't come up with the staging of the song the week before, so I said, "What do you think of this?" and I campily hammed it up with silly gesticulation as the cast watched. The director simply replied, "Do that every night." It was loads of fun, but it's a tough song for a tenor as it lies almost entirely in the middle of the range.
And for the record, Brad is actor's dream role, but
exhausting. He and Janet are on stage for the entire show except two scenes each (Science Fiction: Both, Once in a While: Janet and Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me: Brad). And if you have an enthusiastic audience, trying to be heard will wreak havoc on your voice. We both got laryngitis at the same time and had to croak through several performances helping each other as best we could.
