Now that won't get outta my head...

Allie, I loved Muppet Family Christmas! Best TV special ever. And I was thinking of the whole Christmas song montage, "Happy Holidays" was the main theme I think. Or the one I think of before I think of anything else sung.

Also remembered I gotta mention from the Pearl Bailey episode of the Muppet Show--they were all preparing to do this jousting scene from Camelot until they found out they couldn't get the rights to the Camelot music (though the composers of Camelot also composed My Fair Lady which they did use...weird). Anyway, Gonzo and Floyd were the jousters so they said they have to do it. So it ended up being a whole muffled bit of Broadway songs--from "Ascot Gavrotte" to Pearl welcoming everyone in "Hello Dolly" to "Fugue for Three Horns"(I got the horse right here, his name is Paul Revere), a little bit of "A Boy Like That," and finally they jousted to the Gypsy overture, and then Floyd and Gonzo both kinda fell and Gonzo asked Pearl if he looked okay and she responded..."You...look...swell! You look great..." and then the scene finished with her singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses"

And I also forgot "I Don't Want To Live on the Moon" and "True Blue Miracle".

YAY! We still have the tape of the show from however many years ago it aired. You can buy it on VHS and DVD, but apparently there are some scenes cut out. re: Any diehard Muppet fans here? If so, name your favorite Muppet songs... My sister and I will both mourn for a long time when the year comes where we pop the old tape into the VCR and it doesn't work. I will CRY.

You can still find them at the library. My friend had it on tape and I borrowed it. I think it was a tape of the original.

I also watched it once at the Museum of TV and Radio in the city. That's an excellent place, it's the original aired, uncut version re: Any diehard Muppet fans here? If so, name your favorite Muppet songs...

It was so sad that the more recent Muppet Christmas special could not at all compare.

Oh, and remember Jim Henson made a cameo at the end?

I know my family taped the show, and we watched the tape who knows how many times. I don't know if we still have it, though.

What about Muppet specials? I love the original Muppet Family Christmas from 1987 when the Muppets met Sesame Street met Fraggle Rock.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"There's a Promise" from the Fraggle Rock Christmas special "The Bells of Fraggle Rock". Love the counterpoint at the end of that song.

This is a great thread. :)

I knew I was missing one of the Sesame Street songs on my CD! And how could we have not mentioned it?

How could we forget IT'S NOT EASY BEING GREEN?

My favorite performance is Scooter's rendition (with Fozzie's assistance) of the old Randy Newman song "Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear."

Of course, maybe I'm favorably inclined because my wife and I had the band play it at our wedding...

Oh my God, there are truly too many great Muppet songs to list, but yes, I absolutely agree that Mahna Mahna is simply amazing lol.

Does anyone else cry every time they listen to/watch the scene from Muppets Take Manhattan when they sing Saying Goodbye or is it just me? Lol maybe I'm just too sentimental when it comes to the Muppets....
