I wasn't planning to, but Best Buy has great prices on laptops, and I've been thinking of getting myself one, as well as one for my daughter. So, I'll be out there in line with the other fools before their 5AM opening.

I saw a commercial last night for some store that's opening at 4:00am. There's early, then there's ridiculously early.

Only a bad case of insomnia would get me out that early.

I would love to help boost the economy, but my family gave up buying each other a bunch of gifts a few years ago. Now-a-days we just buy for the kiddos and the adults give little thought gifts, or just simply enjoy our time together.

Well, I seldom sleep past 6AM anyway, so for me 5AM is not THAT early.

There is no product on this planet that would get me up at 5am.

But if a store had a midnight to 3am sale I would probably go.

Yes, I'll be awake by 6:30, I'm sure. It's more the idea of getting dressed and going out in the dark, cold morning that would stop me. I'd rather put my nice, warm feet up, coffee in one hand, the Washington Post in the other. I'll think of you and smile.

Elphie, take that as a sign!

I'm not planning on it. I did one year and the stuff they had on sale was there for a specific reason: crap!
If I was still in town, I'd love to go by the Macys in midtown and see the women running in there and grabbing anything they can without even checking sizes and trampling each other!
I think Simba had it better in the herd!

Lotte, just seeing the TV video that night has kept me away for years.
If I were here for Thanksgiving, I might try it as it would be nothing like the zoo in a major city, but alas always away then

So far, the flyers sort of suck, but I'll still be out early for Target (Sex and the City seasons for $9 a pop and a crapload of other DVDs, maybe a portable DVD player) and Staples ($79 Kodak 9MP camera with a memory card and semi-free printer..i.e. rebate).

Used to be crazier when my kids were smaller, but I think it's fun and I actually look forward to it....call me crazy.

I actually enjoy it more than the actual holidays.

I love getting up early and shopping on Black Friday. My friends and I get to the stores as soon as they open, stop for hot chocolate mid-morning, stop at around noon and go out for lunch. It might be more social than anything else but fun.

I will definitely take a pass on this one ....... Yes, I too would love to boost the
economy but standing on line in the cold is not for me. The family has decided to
really cut down on the gifts this years ... everyone was in agreement, only the
little kids will get gifts... the joy of watching them open their gifts is present enough
for most of us!

Elphaba, check out www.macmall.com. They usually have good deals and are having Black Friday sales. I bought my iMac from them two years ago, plus my AppleCare warranty. I saved money and got a free printer after rebate.

I went last year. The only horrible place was Circut City. I waited on the check out line for a good 30-40 minutes. Not worth it again.

I'm looking to get one of those digital photo converter things for my parents. The thing where you take your old photos and they digitalize them so you can preserve. My parents have a TON of old photos that would be a shame to see destroyed.

Anyway, the cheapest I've seen this is $119 at Brookstone, of all places. Anyone know of any better deals?

I shall be in San Francisco with my sister this Friday. I love the chaos of tons of people running around and crowded streets.

"You have two kinds of shows on Broadway – revivals and the same kind of musicals over and over again, all spectacles. You get your tickets for The Lion King a year in advance, and essentially a family... pass on to their children the idea that that's what the theater is – a spectacular musical you see once a year, a stage version of a movie. It has nothing to do with theater at all. It has to do with seeing what is familiar.... I don't think the theatre will die per se, but it's never going to be what it was.... It's a tourist attraction." Stephen Sondheim

Nope, not planning on it. But, Borders did have a "Pre-black Friday Sale" today for the Borders Rewards members. I ended up spending $100, but the original "regular price" bill was $200. Not too shabby, huh? Most of it was presents too, so that makes me even happier! re: Anyone else shopping EARLY Friday AM?

Did the same thing last night with Borders, although it looks like a lot of the same offers are going to be good tomorrow (per an email I just got).

Got $100 worth of books and DVDs for $42.

I may try to get up early and see if I can find any deals. But from the looks of it, there isn't anything that makes me think "I have to get this, it is such a great bargain". Seeing that shopping is down, you would think the stores would try anything and everything to get shoppers to come in to their stores. Walmart is the only one who appears to have any good deals, but I am not a Walmart shopper, come on Best Buy, Kmart and Macys! Sell your Blu-ray Players for 128 like Walmart!

Well, I was able to find comparable deals online today, so I no longer have to get up early!
