OK so I saw this show tonight- EEEK! This man is a designer? He wore the most horriific clothes, all too small for him. The worst was this zip up jacket over a t-shirt- and he unzipped the jacket from both the top & Bottom to just have a little bit of the zipper closed about mid chest- EEEEEEEEEEEE!
And the house? He redid a kitchen that was actually OK- sort of Dnaish modern. He ripped out everything and did a bizarre grey patchwork on the walls, DARK wood cabinets, White countertops, Blue glass backsplash- nothing went with anything. He also painted a HORRIFFIC huge pair of paintings of BRIGHT red apples on a Sky Blue Background- Is he color blind?

First of all, he's an absolute doll.
And Auggie, you'd have to find two tops first. Good luck.
I think "Big Ol' Bottom" is more of a tacky remark than any indicator of self-hatred. It's a bottom heavy market--you can't blame us for being a little cranky.
And I personally think it's funny to see some big muscle boy who's just as much of a girl as petite, lithe lil me.

Posted: 2/12/08 at 1:12pmOh there is certainly some self-loathing in describing someone as a "Big Ol Bottom." It's the same reason gay personal ads want "Straight acting" guys or (better yet) specify "No Gays!"

Posted: 2/12/08 at 1:28pmI've seen "straight acting" before, but never, "no gays" in a gay personal ad before. What's up with that?!

Well, there's not when I say it, joe--unless you know my motivations better than I do--which is doubtful.
I think guys say it because they know the person to whom it's directed wouldn't give them the time of day. I think it's more about envy than self-hatred.
And straight-acting is about as valid as VGL--they mean nothing nowadays. THAT'S where the self-hatin' comes in--guys who don't want to be identified as gay because they're walking down the street with Rip Taylor.
Which is also just plain FEAR of what might happen to them--and those guys who are worried aren't exactly wrong--there is a danger to being outwardly gay in the wrong place or at the wrong time. Even in NYC--I've been harassed in Chelsea for god's sake! By a straight-acting big ol' bottom!
