Huge Mike Judge fan here and I really hope this one doesn't bomb as hard as its release date and lack of marketing seems to indicate it will. It looks funny and Bateman has yet to disappoint me.
All of Judge's projects have been great up to this point. Hopefully Extract will not break that.

It looks kind of funny and kind of annoying.

I mainly have a fear that, after a while, all of Mike Judge's projects will bomb so hard due to bad marketing that he will eventually say "You know what? F*** you guys. I'm taking my Beavis and Butt-head royalties and moving to France to run a dairy farm."

Walnut Extract? This clearly is a film made by person who doesn't understand the flavorings trade.

I've seen quite a few commercials for this in the past few weeks.

I like her, too (although she strikes me as something of a one trick pony).
I think it looks like it might be a bit of a mess.
I'll watch it eventually as it stars one of my girl crushes (the incredibly cute Mila Kunis!).
Saw it this weekend and LOVED it. I thought it was as good as OFFICE SPACE. What a pleasure to see a completely satisfying comedy. Great writing, tight direction and an absolutely perfect cast. Jason Bateman is absolutely wonderful and as for Ben Affleck...I never thought I would use the word "delightful" in association with him, but there it is.
When the funniest thing in your movie in Ben Affleck you have a problem. This is a poorly executed and totally unfunny movie. What has happened to Mike Judge. He manages to fill the screen with some of best comedy talent around and gives them nothing to.
JK Simmons and Beth Grant are wasted and don't get me started on Batemen. I saw it a couple on months ago at a screening in London and the reaction from the crowd wasn't exactly positive.

Sadly, though I started this thread, I must admit being severely disappointed by this. It was soul-crushing. I love Mike Judge. Everything he has done up to this point is great.
And now here is this. A dark stain on his filmography.
There were funny moments, yes. But a movie with funny moments is not necessarily a funny movie. There was no momentum. But there were so many missed chances for further humor that added up and up and up and up.
All in all, it felt like a thirty minute television pilot stretched to over ninety minutes. Even Office Space felt cinematic.
It was fairly disappointing. Bateman has basically mastered the frustrated everyman character, but it's getting a bit old now. The movie is just kinda there, it's quaint and has a few good gags, but it's not something I'm going to vividly remember in 6 weeks.
My serious problem with it was what Mila Kunis' character does at the end of the movie and I'm not talking about the scene over the credits. It was completely out of character and made absolutely no sense, especially when contrasted with the scene played over the credits.
I liked it but didn't love it. Having a Texas background always gives one an extra level of appreciation of Judge
("Joe Adler" for example comes directly from "Jim Adler" a huckster lawyer who's always advertising on local Houston TV)
I know what you're saying though about the ending, frogs_fan. I thought the movie was going somewhere completely different than where it went.
It's just been so long since I have seen a comedy that was well written. That wasn't a frat boy f**kfest or a romantic comedy that is neither romantic or comic.
Frankly, I think Judge's superfans are mythologizing him into something he isn't.
