Anything Goes - Soprano or Belt??

I have a question. I am going to audition for "Anything Goes" in a few days and I have two songs picked out: one soprano and one belt. In your opinion, which would be the stronger voice to use to audition for this particular show? Thanks!!

I've seen Anything Goes tice and its basically more of a bleter musicla than anything else. the main role is a belter (she sings the song blwo gabriel Blow). therefore, if you want to geta lead part i'd suggest a belting song.

reno sweeney, is a belting role, and she is the main girl, but hope harcourt is a soprano and she is also a lead, basically right behind reno, and hope has the romantic story line for the most part

I've been in this show 4 times lol and the last 2 times I sang "Always True To You" for my belt song and got called back for Erma/Reno. Best of luck!! Try that song..Cole Porter.. Uptempo very much like AG

go with the belt. Hope is not a lead, her part is minimal and can best be called featured, as least int he production that I saw. Plus, if you sing your belt song you could still be cast as basically any other girl in the production whereas you if you sing the soprano song you are basically hope or nothing.

I was kind of thinking doing "Losing My Mind" from Follies... just one I know I've done before can can pull out... what do you think? Or should I stick with an uptempo??

have you ever heard..."Ima lways true to you" from Kiss me kate?..i thinkkk thats the title not sure really...but VERYU cute song.and in the same kind of style as naything goes

good thinking bwaywatchout! I was thinking the same thing, really anyting from Cole Porter could be good. Even So In Love, which is more of a ballad can be belted.

Eh, go for it!!

I did a belt song for the initial audition and then they made me sing lyric (they were looking for Hope) for the callback... so just rock it!!

(Gotta love vocal coaches... they can help you with anything)

Hahahah! Alright, well I decided to do "Always True to You in My Fashion" just for fun, and it worked out super well. Definitely a great song for my voice ;]

So, today we had the vocal audition and WHAT HAPPENS?
...I forget the lyrics!
Hahahah! SUCH SIMPLE WORDS.. completely slipped my mind! Hahahah!
They asked me to sing it again, which was fantastic and I thought I did fairly well ;]

Afterwards, the director was just in awe. "Erin! I didn't know you could sing like that! That was fantastic!" Hahaha! I'm sure they say that to every person who tries out, but it makes me feel better ;] Hhahah

I just felt like updating you on what was happening with my Anything Goes audition process.

How have rehearsals been?

They are going...

It's been interesting... since we all have to be there and they are teaching ensemble parts first... so I've just been learning on my own. Which I don't mind... except I'm not used to belting that much, so it's definitely going to be a strengthening thing

Sorry about the word slip-up! Happens to everyone sooner or later... glad you got another chance though! What role did you get?

You'll definitely strengthen your voice with Reno. That's exciting though!

I recieved a call back and that audition is this afternoon! Hahahah! So, I've just been eating vitmin c chewables like no tomorrow! ;]

We'll find out tomorrow what part I got!

It's so bad because I'm not really familiar with Anything Goes, so I can't pinpoint the characters. It makes me kinda nervous, but I think I can handle it! =]]]

Hahahah! Well, that was fun! ;]

The director made all of the girls sing Reno, Hope and Erma's songs. That was a disaster! Hahaha

During "Blow..." my voice just gave out on me at the end and I was singing "AAAAND I'M DYINGGGGG!" Hahaha
Erma (Bonnie) was next and I OWNED it. I definitely think I did a great job at that.. hopefully it will help me in the long run.
Finally, we had to sing a Hope song. "Little Dream" something like that. That was terrible... I mean, I'm only an alto singing a soprano part! FANTASTIC! ;]

Hahahah!
So then I got to read for Erma. I was the second one up and I thought I did a good job. I had the accent down perfectly, and although I didn't really get to delve into the stage direction, I think I played it off well. Of course, other people were better than I... but then again, they got to watch everyone before =[
I'm PRAYING that my vocal pulled me through with Erma.

I'll find out tomorrow.

I LOVE ERMA!!!!!!!!!!
It's maybe the best part in the show... LOL.. I LOVE IT and I hope you get it!!!!
You sang "Buddy Beware" right??? Cause there are 2 versions of Anything Goes and the one with Erma, as opposed to Bonnie, is the more vocaly challanging, the other is easier vocally but with a better script.

I love AG =D i've done the show so many times. I've been called back for Erma/Reno twice now and haven't gotten it yet...always seem to get an angel or sailstress but, I dont mind I adore cole!!! Break a leg and let us know!! Erma rocks. She is such a funny part.

Now that everyone keeps saying how GREAT Erma is... I really want it! -knocks on wood-

I have a feeling that I'll just get ensemble, though. NOT LIKE IT'S A BAD THING, or anything! I'd like to be recognized and actually have a singing role, though. It'd be cute ;]

We'll find out today!
And then we can definitely start a whole Anything Goes thread, just for fun! Hahahahah

Oh, my! Ensemble. Definitely not a big deal, though! All the seniors got the leading roles and what not. Next year will be my year ;] I'm really pumped! Hahahahah

Congrats!! The ensemble actually does quite a bit, so you won't be underused!!
