re: Apartment hunt in NYC

"At first I thought this thread was titled "Apartment hunk in NYC" and thought maybe some hottie needed a roommate or maybe there was some kind of "rent the apartment, get the man for free" deal. Imagine my disappointment when I took a closer look. Anyway, carry on."

re: Apartment hunt in NYC

Check for apartments around Columbia University. Because they know students are looking for places, the rents are low. Good luck!!! You can also check online for apartments on some NYC Rental sites.

re: Apartment hunt in NYC

You all have just made me really sad. I can't believe rent is that high in NY. I live with my parents and they pay around $900 or so in the rather nice neighborhood of mine.

Good luck in your search!!

"I live in the village. What do you want to live there for? Pick a nicer neighborhood."

The West Village is the most desirable neighborhood in the city. I guess a lot of people want to live there. BTW, what are some of the nicer neighborhoods?

re: Apartment hunt in NYC

It'sbecause of us damn NYU students that the West Village has gotten so damn pricey. I think.

More desirable? I don't know -- I love the Upper West...

I pay $450 for a studio on the UWS. Check out www.corcoran.com or www.halstead.com. You can do a very specific search by neighborhood and price range.

re: Apartment hunt in NYC

A dear friend of mine has a rent stabilized 1 bed for 650 a month. On 45th & 8th right opposite the Hirschfeld. Sadly he cannot "sign it over" to anyone who is not in his immediate family. I know the person above him pays 2200. YIKES!!! But these bargooons do exist.
