Posted: 12/21/04 at 2:45pmI'm a religious minority here. I was never religiously observant or much of a believer. And super-religious people in both Israel and the U.S. have completely freaked me out on more than one occassion. I have a visceral suspicion of organized religion that stems from these past experiences. But I can't stand to read someone posting something as ridiculous as what's been said here. Martin Luther King used religion to "justify" his agenda, too.

I have no problems with you concluding my views as you wish as long as you acknowledge that it is your conclusion rather than describing it as my comment.
Nope, it was addressed to Sister George's comment that religion needs to be justified because it attacks theater, a truly surreal opinion if I ever heard one.
I was saying that religion needs to justify itself when it directly effects other people's freedom as occured in Birmingham.
I did say what I meant but I'm equally I'm tired and really not keen on either of us ending up like papolovesmambo!

Slightly insane?
(I say this with affection, by the way.)
Can we call a truce? I still think you're over-generalizing, but I've been really cranky with you and I apologize for that.

Truce happily accepted.
I'll accept the accusation of over-generalizing but retain my view that too many disgusting actions have been 'justified' by religions for me to continue to blindly tolerate others intolerance.
Anyway I'm going to get some sleep so we can't start again tomorrow!

I'd never ask you to tolerate intolerance. (There's a fun toungue-twister.) But that kind of generalization on both sides is what leads to bigotry in the first place.
Okay, I'm putting on some John Lennon and spacing out.
