Just fifteen minutes until Steve Jobs unveils the newest Apple toy which is sure to be this Christmas' big-ticket item for many households.
Rumors are everywhere that it's a Tablet. We'll see...
UPDATED: It's a tablet and it's being called an iPad.

Ooh I am excited- but I was rather disappointed in the Honeycrisp apples- so expensive and not much better than a good old Granny Smith.
I read an article yesterday about how the Tablet is definitely not worth it. I'll see if I can find it
ETA: I'm still looking but it discussed how it you should never buy anything first generation from apple and that the tablet will make you a target for theft because it's so obvious that you have one.
From what I've read it seems like it's just going to be a really big iPhone, with no phone.
I think it's going to bomb. Most people all ready have a computer and an iPod so there is really no use for it. Also, that would be a bitch to carry around and trying not to damage it somehow.
I hate the name. It sounds like a high-tech feminine hygiene tool.
Yeah I'm watching the liveblog now. Steve Jobs is talking up that you can order movie tickets on it. "Look I want to go to the movies so I just pick up my iPad in the kitchen and viola"
Umm..I can do that on my iPhone now.
You can watch movies and tv...but it's not widescreen.
There doesn't seem to be anything revolutionary here.
I get excited by nearly everything Apple creates, but I just can't get behind this yet. It looks expensive, I already have a Macbook Pro, an iPod, and I plan on getting an iPhone when they include Verizon Wireless as a carrier. Why would I need an iPad unless I wanted to get rid of my Pro -- which I don't think the iPad can do everything my Pro does...
Yeah, I was hoping for a Verizon iPhone. The moment that happens, I am switching from Sprint.
I just got a MacBook Pro for Christmas. I love it!

I just can't bring myself to care. I have a MacBookPro which is like this with a bigger hard drive and can actually read / import / burn media. And I have a phone which can do mostly anything I would want this to do save for watch movies on a larger screen.
...yeah, I just don't get it.
I guess they are recreating the Archos...again. It's an ideal gadget for people who travel on long flights often and don't want the bulkiness or weight of a laptop (my coworkers complain about this often). I make transatlantic flights twice a year and something in that size is a great idea, but it needs an external battery so you can carry backups. Very few flights have electrical outlets for every seat.
Reminds me of this. Its funny because it's true

But isn't that basically what the MacBook Air was about?
I think Mister Matt is right--it's for a small group that this makes sense for. The people who would buy a Netbook.
Really, I think this is a seque to the future of laptops.
They haven't annouced price yet. I wonder how much it's gonna cost.

I read under $1,000.00 on Yahoo this morning. But that was all conjecture.

I'm a bit disappointed it took 34 minutes for you to post that.

"It sounds like a high-tech feminine hygiene tool."
Sadly, that was my first thought as well.
Capn, are you watching CNBC?! The woman on there made the same comment about the name reminding her of a feminine hygiene product.
They are still showing the presentation, although they are talking over it, and there still has not been mention of a price. Although there was a run-up, Apples stock is still down a bit. They are discussing the use of that Apple chip and how not using another company's product (Chip) might keep the price up. They are speculating that it might cost close to $1,000.00 along with a contract cost. Jobs evidently just claimed that Apple is the largest mobile device carrier in the world. CNBC said he went out on a limb with that one.
What gets me is that they broke away from the testimony in Congress to report on this Ipad.
"I guess they are recreating the Archos...again."
I love my Archos, but you can't read on it.
If they destroy the almost-universal love for the Kindle, it will be a mighty impressive feat.
Well I gotta admit the iBooks feature looks pretty kick ass. I don't know if that alone merits buying one though.
I'm not watching CNBC, just following CNNTech Twitter.
A friend's facebook status also mentioned the resemblance to maxipads.
Looks like Apple is creating a lot of negative buzz with this. They shouldn't have built up anticipation with this. If it was a surprise announcement without all the platform, I think the company's integrity might still be intact. It's not a universal product for their built-in base, especially in this economy.
