The 9.7 inch screen device will be available in 16GB and 64 GB versions, making it ideal to watch video, read newspapers and browse photos on. The more "intimate" device, as Jobs describes it, is a "dream" to type on with full-size touch-screen keyboard, similar to the iPhone interface. The Apple iPad will have 10 hours of battery life and also have Wi-Fi capability, but no mobile contract announced as of yet.
Those fans of their beloved Apps will be happy to know that all their existing Apps are easily transferable to the iPad and many more exciting ones are on the way to be fully enjoyed on the bigger screen. And for e-readers, The New York Times has already signed on with Apple to create exclusive content, including articles with a newspaper look and play-in-page video.
They also announced the iBook Store, a digital bookstore for the new Apple iPad, which has already partnered with five major book publishers: Penguin, Macmillan, Simon & Schuster, Harper Collins and Hachette.
I think it will do very well at first. Let's see if people stick with it and how reliable they are this early on.
"Jobs: iPad price ranges from $499 to $829. More storage costs more. And models with 3G cost more, too. Others only have Wi-Fi."
Available with Wi-Fi and 3G. "Two options for iPad 3G data plans. Both through AT&T. Unlimited plan for $29.99 per month; $14.99 for 250 MB per month." No contracts, cancel anytime.
My husband's gonna be pissed he spent $2000 on this MacBook....LOL
As far as networking goes. It will be $14.99 a month for 250mb of data and $30.00 a month for unlimited. Provided by AT&T of course with free access to AT&T wifi hotspots.
I think how well this is going to do will all depend on price. If it's much more than a nook/kindle...it's gonna bomb.
Prices will range from $499 for the 16GB wifi model to $829 for the 64GB wifi + 3G.

It might not have tremendous widespread appeal, but there could be a market for it. I think it's cool... think it would be great to commute with, to travel with, and I could even see bringing it to meetings for presentations. (I'm assuming it has the same capability to enlarge content on the touchscreen with your fingertips like the iPhone) Reading, watching videos and playing games could be more enjoyable, too. It seems like it has more of the benefits of a computer than a standard smartphone, and more of the benefits of a smartphone than a standard computer.

I love my Archos, but you can't read on it.
Yeah the iBook feature sounds like the one major bonus. I haven't checked out the new Archos tablets launched last year, but if they had a similar feature, I'd definitely look into getting one. I believe the smaller one comes with up to 500 GB hard drive.
And Namo, I do have expectations to fulfill, after all. I haven't been as predictable as say, every iThread highlighting every iAnnouncement, but I'll try harder next time. And I will admit, the derivatives crop up on both sides of the fence. Archos didn't jump on the micro mp3 bandwagon until long after Apple introduced the Shuffle.
Soon they're going to come out with iSex.
I agree with general consensus that it doesn't seem to have a stand alone quality that you don't have on an iPhone, Kindle or MacBook. I wouldn't imagine it'll have huge sales because it doesn't have universal appeal like the iPod or iPhone, it essentially seems to be for business types...an up-to-date Palm Pilot kind of thing.
If they were to include a touch screen sketch pad with photoshop/editing software included then it could be a hit with the creative industries. I mean, I'd love to have a device with photo/video editing software and illustration/photoshopping capabilities that also has internet for uploading/emailing. Essentially a sketchbook of the future.
I do agree with whoever said above this is more a stepping stone of what laptops will be in the future. But, thats what Apple do best...anticipate where technology is going and get it to us before we thought we needed it.

I invented that in the early-'70s. If Apple copied that I would feel just like Archos.
And if you were Republican, you'd have been drawn and quartered by now!
And Apple wants me to pay MORE money to AT&T for their crappy 3G. Which I can expect will get even crappier now with an influx of iPad users. I mean they can't keep up with the data demand from the iPhone!
I guess I could always Skype..oh wait..there's no camera on the iPad.
The iPad is a bust...at least for me.
hmm, will it be able maybe to hold textbooks? I can see where if it could do that, and was priced reasonably (HAH) that it may be worth it....if students could rent textbooks for a semester...
Or wait! Maybe we should just all get rid of our iPhones!
How to give less money to AT&T
And the Microsoft Courier is on its way. It looks very confusing to me, though.
Microsoft Courier
I want that Courier!
Eh. I'm not the target market for this. Or if I am - I am just not interested.
I would call the iPad evolutionary - not REVOLUTIONARY...

I'm sorry, but...the iPad? It's like the "bro/bra episode of Seinfeld...
Is anyone else pissed that they didn't refresh the Macbook Pro's today? Give us a laptop with Arrandale, Apple!
I'd be more interested if it didn't require an AT&T data plan.
MissChung, I'm so computer illiterate I don't even know what you mean.

No one in Apple marketing even bothered to Google the name? They would have came up with that MadTv skit.
No multitasking or flash support. WHAT IS THE POINT?
Perhaps the "new coke" of the decade?
