I just got home about an hour ago. I was up in my room on the computer checking my mail. I hear the doorbell ring. I go downstairs to find my yard completely wrapped in toilet paper, instant mashed potatoes smeared all over my walkway, shaving cream all over my plants and windows, a few windows slightly smashed and my Kerry/ Edwards sign shredded and thrown about my yard, along with my Martin Frost for Congress sign.
I had my yard vandilized constantly in 2000 and 2002 when I had Democratic yard signs out. So, I ordered 10 extra this year. I'll be ready. But there have been reports all over North Texas of Democratic yard signs being vandilizaed.
Some Sessions campaign workers (he is Frost's opponent) were even found vandilizing yards with Frost signs.
I am not that angry. But I feel sorry for these dull, close-minded, ignorant babies who feel like vandilizing yards of members of the opposing political party is how a democracy works.

Nice argument, huh? My candidte is better than yours because I wrecked your sign. It is, as you say, just sad.
Priest - thanks for sticking up for what you believe in. I'm sorry there are such small minded people out there. I can only imagine how rough it is to be a democrat in Texas these days!

Priest, you make me proud!
As I write this, I'm in North Carolina, where things are no different, whatsoever. I'm afraid if I say the word Democrat I'll be arrested.
I thought that is illegal to trash someone's signs. It's immoral and very immature. Just goes to show how much of a f**k a person can be.
Things are so nasty right now. If I can't spend a day in NYC wearing an anti-Bush t-shirt without encountering nastiness here and there, I can not imagine what Texas/the south must be like.
I will say this: if the Bushies are sooooo sure that Bush is going to win, why all of the desperation?
I have a feeling that whoever wins on November 2, there will be a huge reaction by those who voted for the other guy.
Yeah, we all know Bush is going to win ( :-P ) so why must they feel the need to trash Kerry signs?

That is the most ridiuclous thing I have ever heard of. Is there anyway you can try to catch these people. I'd want to prosecute them, or at the very least beat the sh*t out of them. No I guess then you'd be sinking to their level. This is a sad sad position our country is in. It's almost a joke. We think we're the most civilized, important, influencial country in the world and then we vandolize peoples property who have differnt views than our own. Yeah..... that makes us SO much better than the rest of the world.

They're not desperate; they'e true believers. Face it, a lot of this election does tie into what's morally right- homosexuality, unprovoked war, abridgement of civil liberties, etc. So both sides don't just see this as being about politics- it's more urgent than that.
Normally I'd say that's a good thing- politics is that urgent, every election, and I wish people would notice it more. But when the outlet for all that urgency is destruction and hate instead of argument and support, I wonder if al this urgency is a good thing after all.
"Is there anyway you can try to catch these people."
Not really. But Sessions workers, and Pete Sessions himselfr, have been caught removing Frost signs.
I have contacted the Dallas Morning News and they are writing a story which may or may not appear in the paper.
Oh, and I forogt to tell you what they put on my door: a large 'W' put together with toilet paper and shaving cream.
But its not like they accomplished anything.
I did have just a small FROST sign. But I called the campaign headquarters and they will putting up one of the large 4 by 4 signs in my yard.
But how long before that is torn apart?
Poor baby. Be careful. But show your pride!
Re Bush beating Kerry & winning the White House again (ptui ptui ) Let the Democrats remember a litttle slogan:
YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!
You just gotta love that philosophy:
"My candidates are better than yours because I can vandilize your home, commit crimes and rip up signs!"
There can be such ugliness in the world. Keep putting signs up! We're all rooting for you here1
It happened in (fairly--at least comparatively) liberal West Orange, NJ, when anti-Iraq war residents -- who merely posted "peace" signs -- had mounds of excrement dumped on their lawn repeatedly. To be on the side of peace is to be on the side of the Devil.
We live not only in a divided country, but also one in which W true believers think they alone are "patriotic." The rest of us are Godless heathens. It's part of the Limbaugh-O'Reilly-Coulter-ization of America -- liberals or just plain old moderate Democrats are dangerous "traitors." A word which once meant vowing loyalty to and aiding known enemies has been hinjacked to connote ANYONE who doesn't think and act (and have sex) like They do. You could laugh it off, perhaps, if so many people didn't stand behind it. It's a propriatary mindset -- Mel Gibson owns Jesus, the Right Wing owns the Flag. The rest of us own zip and are going to hell, end of discussion. But in a world where 45% of the country -- as of last week! -- STILL think Saddam was somehow behind 9/11 ... and a Viet Nam vet could be made the weak sissy, and the kid who escaped the draft evolves into the strong real man, hey anything is possible. I'd say be afraid, be very afraid. But I'm not goin' down without a fight. Be pissed, be very pissed.
exactly, Auggie. These are scary--BACKWARDS--times.
