Say what you want about her voice and the lyrics (which, at times, are admittedly amatuerish), but I would think twice about insulting the music to her songs. ALL of her songs on "Autobiography" are, musically, very well written.
In fact, I doubt that most of the people on this thread have even heard her CD. Her singles on the radio ("Pieces of Me", "Shadow", and "LaLa") are the weakest tracks on her album. Listen to "Surrender", "Unreachable", "Better Off", "Love Me for Me", and "Nothing New". Much better than what's on Z100.

Posted: 1/27/05 at 4:01pmAre you really comparing Ashlee Simpson to Bruce Springsteen?

Posted: 1/27/05 at 4:02pmIf the 3 singles that are out playing on the radio are the weakest... why are they the singles? Why were they chosen to be the hits. I think that Shadow is just lame. If she was living in the shadow... she used the shadow to get out and have the easy way out to get a cd made.

Everytime I listen to the CD, I ask myself the same thing.

Whoa now, I don't own Ashlee's CD so I can't comment on the overall quality of her music (though I enjoy the genre very much), however I think it's a bit much to say that "ALL" of her songs are well-written. "La La" is not just a relatively weaker song - it's a BADLY written song.
Chorus:
you make me wanna
lala lalala lalala lalalalala
you make me wanna
lala lalalala
you make me wanna
La La in the kitchen on the floor
i'll be your french maid
when I meet you at the door.
I'm like an alley cat
drink the milk up I want more.
You make me wanna,
you make me wanna scream.
Dare I say that Jim Coyler could come up with better crap than that.

I'll repeat myself:
"Say what you want about her voice and the lyrics (which, at times, are admittedly amatuerish), but I would think twice about insulting the -->MUSIC<-- to her songs. ALL of her songs on "Autobiography" are, -->MUSICALLY<--, very well written."
I don't mean to jump on you, I just don't want to be misunderstood.

"The Germans call it schadenfreude, but here in the U.S. we just say, "La la!"
You've got a bit of la la on your chin, Rath. Sorry about that. Better aim next time.

Ah, point noted, 86. I think I glazed over most of it and just saw "ALL her songs"..."very well written" and suddenly I was like Uma Thurman and the red siren theme in Kill Bill and that's all I remembered.
