Just curious. I've spent a lot of time over the past couple of days moving my music onto an iPod, and it made me aware of how much other music there is that I love, too. I'm very happy to have rediscovered some old McGarrigle Sisters CDs, a classic Procol Harum, and everything Sandy Denny (alone and with Fairport Convention and Fotheringay) ever recorded.

Nothing. re: Aside from showtunes, to what music do you listen? Ever since I was introduced to Cast Recordings, I do not buy anything else! When I listen to the radio, I love anything. rap (not the best), punk rock, pop, etc. The only thing I hate is heavy metal. The lyrics really mean "I AM GONNA DIE! I AM GONNA DIE!"

A LOT of different music--Meat Loaf, Loreena McKennitt, oldies like The Monkees to name but a few.

I am downloading Loreena McKennitt at this very moment. She's amazing.

The Visit, The Book of Secrets, and The Mask and the Mirror, and To Drive the Cold Winter Away. I like the way her music encompasses herm intellectual explorations, reading, and travels. She's sort of an Enya with depth and where the songs actually sound different.

I love the way she takes old poetry and turns it into songs. The Lady Of Shalott and The Highwayman are so wonderful.

The shocker for me was that I had read The Highwayman in high school but didn't remember it until I heard her sing it. I kept thinking, "I know this from someplace." When I realized they were one in the same it was a real "Wow" moment, if you know what I mean.

I would LOVE to see her in concert but I've heard she doesn't preform very much lately. Something about losing her boyfriend/husband (?) in a horrible freak accident. So sad.

I rarely listen to much else *ducks*, but I also listen to techno or classical music. (quite a mix, huh?) But I mostly listen to my cast recordings...people always ask me what my favorite bands are, and I can't answer! I'm like "Uh...I can name a musical!" But I think that the White Stripes are pretty good...but that's about it besides cast recordings.

LadyGuenevere I'm worse than you. The only music I can stand nowadays is some rock like Blink 182, White Stripes, etc. but even that is pushing it. I do like oldies and when I was little that was what I would listen to until I discovered the wonderful world of musicals. If I am listening to the radio I usually listen to NPR.

Everything except for gangster rap... Oh pardon me, "GANGSTA" rap. I just can't stand it. I'm really into classical and Elton John. Besides that I listen to everything.

Lately I can not stop listening to Pink's "Missundaztood," approximately two years after the fact. Outkast's "The Love Below." The Strokes, "Room on Fire." White Stripes, "Elephant." Brooks & Dunn's "Red Dirt Road," (I almost hate myself for it but I keep putting it on again and again). The Stills, "Logic Will Break Your Heart." Depeche Mode, "Catching Up With." And the Hedwig tribute album.

gotta have the variety, so i recommend some good jam bands like OAR or bela fleck. But if thats not your thing you can't go wrong with the classics like the Beatles. Outkast if u liek rap...kenny chesney if you liek country...its all good. But if you want to really rock out, i suggest some new kids on the block :) haha ohhhhh i had the biggest crush on jordan...

I have such a random taste in music...I basically listen to alomost everything except rap and heavy metal.
Artists I often play are: Barbra Streisand, ABBA, Alanis Morissette, Indigo Girls, Matchbox 20, Josh Groban, Queen, and varied oldies. And on top of showtunes, I listen to a lot of movie soundtracks as well. :)

Classical (Ades to Vivaldi; Opera(Ades to Wagner); Gregorian chants; soundtracks (musicals and non) including French and Italian films; jazz especially show tunes in jazz; blues; some Country; swing and big bands; Hendrix (I saw him burn his guitar); vocalists (Bennet to Wilson); ummm that's off the top of my head.

As for show albums & show music, I listen to those a lot, too.

I like just about everything. I go through phases though, I've been on showtunes hard core for a couple of months but I also love this group called Switchfoot. I've been a fan of them for several years, they are just now starting to get into the mainstream. Their lyrics are really refreshing compared to a lot of crap out there right now. I am willing to listen to just about everything but too much talk about sex and drugs and killing yourself gets to me after a while so I limit how much of that stuff I listen to.

When I discovered cast recordings, I don't listen or buy much anything else. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers, though. They're amazing. And, the solo albums of Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp, and Idina Menzel.

If you were referring to my post, I didn't say anything about heavy metal. I like heavy metal. I just avoid listening to too many songs that talk about having sex, doing drugs, and killing others or yourself, whether that be heavy metal, hip-hop, or country songs that tell you to do it. I just think there are so many other things to write about in songs, but thats all you ever seem to hear in some music nowadays. I know its a part of life but do we have to concentrate on it so much? Isn't there other enjoyable things in life worth writing about? I am also one of those people who believe music should belong to an artist and not a record exec, oooh I bet I'll get shot for that one!re: re: re: Aside from showtunes, to what music do you listen?

I forgot to mention that I also listen to Abba and Billy Joel (like him better than MC from Movin' Out, but I love MC too...).

I guess I didn't mention it because it's usually weird for 16 year old girls to be listening to that. re: re: Aside from showtunes, to what music do you listen? I guess I should be listening to *gasp* Britney! Or 50 Cent! *rolls eyes*
