Hmm, so a local theatre group near me is doing Hairspray (Yeah, how about that.) and I plan on auditioning and I was thinking of singing one of Conrad's songs from Bye Bye Birdie just for the "rock" feel of it but I don't know enough about the show to be able to plan for the audition. I was wondering if anyone here has any ideas because I am stumped.
Hmmm... I didn't think the rights were out yet, but anything Bye bye birdie is a good choice.

I'm 99% sure that U.S.A rights are not out yet. If this is the case I would advise you NOT to audition for it, seeing that it is VERY illegal.
However there is that 1% chance that I am wrong, or that the rights were given for this ONE CASE only, so find out first.

Well if it is illegal I don't want any part of it.
playbill, what is this production you are talking about? It sound a little more legal and promising than the one I found.
the rights have to be out. i auditioned for a professional regional production of hairspray this summer.
The rights are out in certain situations. NSMT is mounting a production later this month.
Ahhhh... not fair. I want to be in Hairspray!

My friend did it this summer, but it was just a very, very odd interpretation.
I don't think you should avoid it because it is likely there are way to retreive the rights.
