I really didn't think Ms. Holmes made bad acting choices, I just didn't think she should have been attempting to portray that character.
Overall, as summer movies go, this one was pretty up there in quality and content.
I posted this in another thread:
Let me just start with saying that Christian Bale might be the most hottest man. Alive. ::falls in love:: He was amazing. Period. I loved him, and the man uses his body as a canvas, considering the other works he has done. He really made me believe that he was Bruce and Batman, himself. Gah! He's just so wonderful.
Katie Holmes, bad casting. Tolerable acting, but she seemed MUCH too young for the role. But just in general, I had a hard time remembering her character, as well.
Liam Neeson was great as Ducard. I couldn't place anyone else besides him. He did a great job delivering his lines and staying in his role.
Michael Caine was SO great as Alfred. His comedic timing just never missed a beat and had me laugh heartily quite a few times. He seemed VERY elderly for the role, but did a good job, nonetheless.
Everyone else wasn't memorable, but not terrible either. Those were the few that stuck in mind.
Plot-wise, it was great. A good introduction to Batman's past and how he became what he is known as. It kept me guessing, and me, not knowing much about Batman, understood the basic gist of everything. I'm sure a die-hard Batman fan would have a field day.
Special effects were amazing. They recreated Gotham and made it look as real as Chicago or Manhattan. The skyscrapers were just breathtaking and the birds-eye view of the city was gorgeous at day and shlummy in the night. The way that they made the costume/Batmobile was also pretty cool. The hallucinogenic effects of Scarecrow's drugs are disturbing. Which adds more to the "dark" element of the movie.
Length-wise, it was about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I wished it were longer. It's one of those movies where you KNOW it's been going on for a while, but you don't really realize HOW long it's been. You're too caught up in everything.
The only real problem I had with this movie was the camera angles and the lights. Not in general, but just in the fighting scenes. It's just SO chaotic that I became dizzy at times and everything (or everyone) is usually dressed in black or shrouded by the shadows and it's just very...not nauseating, but confusing. You don't really know who's fighting who and what's going on.
I give it, an 8.5/10. It was good, and I might be willing to see it again. Go see it. You'll enjoy it.
Loved the movie...and oh, my, GOD. were the scarecrow man's eyes BEAUTIFUL. I was just sort of staring at those eyes for a while....wow.
Ugh. I want to go see it again now. Stop bumping this thread!!!!!
::puts in American Psycho::
Saw it yesterday and loved it!!! holy crap christian bale really is one of the best actors out there....Aigoo i went home and put in American Psycho also! He seriously rocks in that movie...and Batman and The Machinist...come on Acadamey where is this guys oscar??? Loved Nolan's direction it felt real...i was soo absorbed in it all...it was an experience to say the least. With our group too which also had a lot of teens who normally just leave and they gave it thunderous applause when it was over. As far as Katie Holmes is concerned...she is trying to play more mature parts give her credit and there are lots of young hot shot and (gasp!) female attorneys out there. I loved her in this as in everything she does she just grabs you and those eyes, wow those eyes are intense. I too wish they would have spent a little more time with the love story and developed her more but my feeling is they did and that when they had to edit the movie down those were the first scenes to go. shes great in it you just have to get joey potter out of your system and see her as katie and hey even for those who didn't like her performance...for a girl only really known for her teeny bopper roles (except for the AWESOME peices of april which if you haven't checked out you have to) she was darn impressive even if you didn't like her give her cred for trying...i realize we vary with opinions but personally i loved her. The whole movie as well. It's been a while people since there's been a blockbuster this good go check it out!
I thought Jennifer Connelly might've done a good job in the role. Or that girl who was in the Ashton Kutcher movie to do with love or something. "Down with Love"? Maybe? I don't know. It wasn't a very known name, so I can't remember it very well.
would someone please post a photo of BALE so i won't have to go search for one? i understand he's QUITE GROWN UP now ...

I think I am going to stop seeing movies. I was SO looking forward to a return to the dark and gothic Batman of 16 years ago after Joel Schumacher ruined everything.
Well I think this went too far in that direction. It was so dark and gloomy and so serious and po faced that it was a little bit tiresome. The attempts at humour were, for the most part, misjudged and misplaced. It was also very slow but at the same time there were too many characters in it, none of them were given enough screen time to adequately come into focus. Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer and Cillian Murphy in particular, were all woefully underused. And I found myself wondering why Gary Oldman even bothered showing up.
The plot was unecessarily convoluted and had holes you could drive a truck through. I was reminded of Batman Returns with its "too many villains and too many plot strands" structure. Rather more damaging to my enjoyment was I really didn't like Bale as Batman. Or as Bruce Wayne. I can't put my finger on why, but he really irked me. He didn't seem to know what to do with the character. I can't stand Katie Holmes or Michael Caine, so their hopelessly bad performances didn't surprise me, they just annoyed me.
Also, I have had enough of movies shooting violent fight sequences with an epileptic camera before being edited with a lawn mower and stuck together with crazy glue. It's obviously being done to get around the censors (Mr & Mrs Smith suffers from the same complaint) but it just means that you spend fight sequences wondering what the hell is going on because Lord knows you can't tell by watching.
doesn't sound like my kind of movie. i'll just have to be satisfied with still pix of BALE.
I saw this movie last night and didn't care for it at all(I'm not too big into this genre, but I DID like the other batmans, especially the first 2). I tried to like it, but I just didn't care for this one very much.
The beginning with the Japanese Training was SOOOO Boring, so it atleast got a bit better......

Actually, it looked to me like his training was in China, but I really don't know.
Anyway- did anyone else have a problem with the Batmobile? It kind of takes away from the suspense of a car chase when one of the cars is practically indestructible. There was the whole race-against-time factor, but still...the best car chases are the ones where you think the protagonist's car is in as much danger of flipping over as those chasing him/her.
oh good grief! it sounds like the hype built the film up too much for you guys who are hating it. oh well. sorry for your loss.
I'll be heading to the local IMAX to see it again soon! :P

I liked it; I just didn't think it was the be-all and end-all of superhero films that some fanboys are making it out to be.
Do I qualify to be a fanboy? It sounds so cute and butch! Whaddya think??
You might be cute, but you sure ain't butch .
that's not true, punk! don't make me whup your b**** a**! I can be the nelliest with the best of the nelliest but trust me--I can be plenty butch. But, then again, I'm usually the butchest in bed...
Let's not go there though. This thread was already disturbing enough
what's wrong? scared, punk? I am officially throwing down a threadjack.
You better recognize, biotch!!
Ahem. Why would I be scared of you? Let's see if we can keep this up long enough to get in the famous feuds thread.
