Of course. But apparently the midnight screenings were quite empty (unlike Episode III) so I don't think its gross will be as high as everyone is hoping.
but word of mouth will build this film. despite the popculturepartypoopers.

The midnight screening I attended was almost full, but not nearly as enthusiastic as I thought it would be. But I guess the movie didn't have a lot of "cheer now" moments, at least until the very end.
We'll see Jerbytch, we'll see.
I got the feeling the lack of SW frenzy was due to Batman's reputation after the last one. And maybe not as much publicity.
Bring it, popsy!
First of all, some of you liked American Psycho!? I rank it as one of the worst movies I have ever seen! I still don't like to hear "Hip to be square" (which luckily isn't too hard to avoid)! I saw it just for him.
Secondly, and most importantly, how much of Liam is in there? Is it a really small part? ie-- Do I get adequate drooling time?

If you like bizarre facial hair, there's plenty of drooling in store for you.
Well, I am not a huge fan of bizarre facial hair, but it is possible I may become one after it is paired with that voice...
Just bumping this because I was right. Batman Begins opened at number 1 this weekend, but with some $15 million less than analysts predicted.
saw it last night... IMAX too... I LOVED THIS MOVIE!!! definitely the best i've seen this year! i need to see it again
I saw it last night and it was WONDERFUL. Christian Bale is beautiful.
I saw it as well this weekend, and thought it was ok...though I'm really not much of superhero flick sort of gal (I don't know what the hooplah over Spiderman 2 was; I thought it was AWFUL! I was ready to walk out half-way through)...I'd say Katie Holmes was the glaring weak link, acting-wise. It's been said earlier, but she really couldn't pull off playing an assitant DA, let alone a 30 year old (weren't they supposed to be about the same age?...maybe 28?...sorry she still looks and sounds like she's 18 or so). I liked her a lot in Wonder Boys and Pieces of April, but she didn't cut it here. I thought I was going to burst out laughing when she slapped him in the car.
Didn't see this mentioned elsewhere, so...(from IMDB):
Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have signed to star in a second Batman movie, but love interest Katie Holmes has been dropped. Movie bosses are thrilled with the response to Batman Begins - it took $46.9 million in its first weekend at the US box office - and have snapped up the film's stars for a sequel. Bale as Batman was the first to put pen to paper, followed by Caine as butler Alfred and Freeman as Bruce Wayne's business associate Lucius Fox. But Holmes won't reprise her role as district attorney Rachel Dawes - reportedly because Warner Bros is angry her engagement to Tom Cruise has stolen media attention away from the movie. A source tells Pagesix.Com, "Everyone is in agreement that the movie's strength is with Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman." Adding of Holmes, "She won't be in the sequel... the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress. Warner is happy that people are now focusing on who'll be playing the Joker rather than Katie and Tom."
Christian Bale is absolutely gorgeous with a body to kill for. Just saw him in American Psycho and can't get those images out of my head or my dreams.
Of course, they missed a trick there. They should have cast Tom Cruise AS The Joker. With that grin, he's a natural.
Talk about scary, popcultureboy!!! *shudder*
I thought the first three films were pretty bad, but at least they had something that is truly lacking in Batman Begins-- FUN!
It was just so tedious. I wish they would have spent more time developing Gordon's character and a little less with the kung-fu mumbo jumbo.
The humor that was there seemed rather like an afterthought. It's as if they saw the first cut and said "we need some funny lines. Let's get Cain back in here and see if we can get at least a couple of laughs."
I thought both Holmes and the Scarecrow were much too young and their acting was some of the worst I have seen in a long time.
I really thought it was a snooze fest, as did the woman next to me who started snoring (rather loudly) 3/4 of the way through it.
Again, it just wasn't any FUN!
I'm with you on everything except Cillian Murphy, who I thought was splendid.

I think you've hit on what bothered me about the movie and made it good but not great, Sueleen. I wasn't looking for camp, that bane of fanboys everywhere. But even though I was at an ultra-enthusiastic midnight screening, there were almost no big moments of laughter, shocked gasps, or applause. I heard more heightened reactions at half-empty midday screening of X2 I attended.
Saw this movie twice last week, and absolutely loved it. The entire cast was great. Bale made the role of Bruce Wayne his own, adding real humanity to it in a way that I've never seen before. And he looked great in the Batsuit.
Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman are such good actors, they make their throwaway roles memorable and entertaining ("Didn't you get the memo?"). Despite being several years too young for the part, Katie Holmes was better than I expected. Sure, there were some awkward readings, but there scenes that were quite good. Finally, Cillian Murphy wonderfully off-kilter as Scarecrow.
I didn't mind the slower opening half-hour. As I've said before in previous posts, I have a lot of patience for movies. Hell, I liked "Dogville", didn't I? The action scenes didn't disappoint. They were exciting and, thankfully, comprehensible. The screenplay was tight and, just as with Bale's performance, went places that the previous ones didn't touch.
Well I loved Dogville but I didn't enjoy Batman. And Michael Caine is a TERRIBLE actor. WHY does everyone think he's so good?
The only answer I can give is... because he is a good actor. Why don't you think he's good?

Admittedly, I haven't read the comics, but I always pictured Alred as being more of the stereotypical stiff English butler, with an edge of dry humor. Caine did it differently, but I liked him fine, maybe because he and Freeman were the only actors who bothered to crack a smile.
Excellent! Very loud. Every preview except the wonderful Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was loud too. It's a new day.
Chicago audience applauded at the end.
Did this Batman film cost a billion dollars to construct?
I saw it the night it came out. People where clapping through out. It got a great response. I thought Christian Bale had a tendancy to look like TOm Criuse at some points.
