Just a little more TV Lassie trivia -
June Lockhart wasn't the first mother on "Lassie" - and 'Timmy' wasn't Lassie's first owner. When the TV show started, Lassie lived on the farm with Jeff (played by Tommy Rettig) and his grandfather and his mother. His mother was played by Jan Clayton. Jan has some distinguished Broadway roots of her own - she was Julie Jordan in the original Broadway cast of "Carousel".
After 4 years Jeff had become too old to be living on the farm with his mother and the actor (Rettig) wanted to quit acting and go back to a normal life, so the younger Timmy and his family was written into the story. Reruns of the earlier episodes started appearing under the name "Jeff's Collie".

Great thread!
I guess I must be old because I recognized both actresses named in the subject line and what shows they were in.
Loved Here Comes the Brides with Bobby Sherman. He even had his own TV series (briefly) after that. I don't recall all about that sitcom, but his character had a little sister in it. About the time of his hit "Julie, Julie, Julie to you love me.....Julie, Julie, Julie do you care? Julie, Julie are you thinking of me? Julie, Julie will you still be there? Being alone at night makes me sad girl......"
I could go on...for some reason I remember that song!!

How gay was I even as a young KID to know that Jan Clayton was Julie Jordan? My friends used to stare at me and say, "Julie who?" or "What's Carousel?"
I shoulda known back then...
I preferred the later Lassie/Timmy shows, but I always had a special place in my heart for Jan Clayton on those older shows. She was so sweet and melancholy all at the same time.

And before she was on "Beverly Hillbillies, "The Flintstones", etc., Bea was on the "George Burns and Gracie Allen Show".
I was not a fan of "Petticoat Junction" (except I used to dance around to the theme song), but I loved Bea on those other shows.

Posted: 11/23/06 at 12:27pmYou would have loved the "Love American Style" she did. It was called "Love and the Perfect Family." She was the mother in a sitcom that just got word that they'd been cancelled. (William Schallert, the father from "The Patty Duke Show" was the father.) As they realize they're careers are over, all the bitchiness comes out, although none of it shows in the takes. One of my favorite moments was when the "daughter" starts flirting with a stagehand. Schallert snaps; "That's enough of that! I've got the only daughter on television who spends three months home and nine months a 'summer camp!' "

I always think of her as Lucille Ballard and as this mom:

Ditto, Glebby.
But I also have a soft spot in my heart for other "Lassie mom" and Carousel star Jan Clayton.
...but that's for another thread!

Those pics came from her daughter Anne's website. I never made the connection that she was June's daughter.
