BWW Awards are a farce.

The BWW Awards allows votes to be cast regardless of whether the voter has seen the performance. On top of that, it also (to the best of my knowledge) never posted or otherwise made clear Contest Rules concerning soliciting votes. This makes these awards a popularity contest and in my opinion, BWW wants that because it means all the nominees notify all their friends and BWW's Website gets thousands of thousands of clicks and new visitors. One Community Theater even sent out a marketing email listing all their people who were nominated) It is at the least disingenuous to "advertise" these nominations implying that they are some kind of honor when there are no clear standards as to the nominating process. I want to be clear: many of those nominated deserve the respective awards, but whether they get it has nothing to do with talent. All winning tells us is that the winner somehow got the most people to vote for him/her/it whether the voter saw the winner's performance or the performance of all the other nominees or not. It would be extremely coincidental if the person who was the best also got the most votes. A very flawed contest.

Yes....but this is nothing new. It doesn't mean anything, to anyone...except to those that get it - and even then.

Yes, but with some contests, the goal is getting the most votes: this "contest" is to name the best.

It's the same as the People's Choice Awards. It's just a bit of fun that allows regular folk to vote in something and participate, rather than just watch results. The results most likely will represent the BWW Tween Choice Awards, but you can participate if you want.

As Sondheim says- Unless an award comes w money, it's essentially worthless.
(unless it can be used for promotional purposes THEN it's worth something to the promoter)

SO, who really cares

You say this is a contest to see who people thought was the best: what a concept: how can people vote for the best when they haven't seen the rest? I have no problem making this a popularity contest- just don't try to sell it like it's something else.
