Ebby, you had my vote of confidence. I can think of a couple of people I'd rather see out than you - but dude, when it's country, ya gotta do country!
Sorry man. I am bummed, and was really looking forward to your Mariah next week.
And to 86 and Link, congratulations. If I remember correctly, there was < 1.0 separating 6, 7 and 8, which was 86, Link and Ebonic. It really could've been either of you - no one's safe. Y'all need to step up your game. (Big improvement this week, Link. 86, you've gotta match your first performance! I think "Home" is what got you this far!)
This is just going to get harder, isn't it.
I strung out the results for a really long time.. Partially because I wasn't looking forward to eliminating anyone..
And it was fun to torture everyone..
It is. I love playing the suspense card. Now I can understand why Ryan Seacrest is so hated (but then again, that's suspense plus a flat-iron, which is never a good combination).
I'm still upset that Ebonic's out. But I think Link and 86 did well this week too.
Just to clarify--flat irons are still acceptable for women, right?
Yes, but orange tans aren't.
Great. I've never had an orange tan, but I sure as hell am deeply attached to my flat iron.
Have you seen the new one that can straigten your hair AND dry it at the same time? I want it.
No! How does it work? I'm intrigued.
I was thinking of getting that Japanese treatment that makes your hair look wonderfully jet-straight, but it's several hundred dollars. Maybe I ought to go for a choppy layered cut instead.
ETA: Any song ideas yet? There's so many good ones for you this week!
Wow,
I thought this was gonna be the week that I go. Thanks to everyone (IF there was anyone besides myself...if not, thanks to me) for voting for me. I promise that I will try and step up my game even more for next week.
Akiva
I'll give you a choppy hair cut Tiff!!
**brandishes scissors**
You're already in the right direction by listening to our critiques and trying something somewhat out of your comfort zone, so kudos again for that, Link.
Any idea for your song choices next week? I think "Celebrity Skin" by Hole would be cool - unless no one else is doing "Criminal", in which case you ought to try that! Something rock-ish - we've yet to hear that edge from you!
I'm thinking of rocking some Alanis next week. maybe "Head over Feet"...I dunno if "Uninvited" was before 2000 or not.
I figure I should introduce some Canadian content into this contest (say that ten times fast!)
Akiva
I was hesitant to suggest Canadian content because my "hunch" is that we'll have a Canadian week coming up. A little bird told me.
But our country does have so much variety that doing Alanis now won't kill you. Do you have enough rocker in you to do "Oughta Know" or that song that's just slipped out of my head that start, "Wait a minute man, you mispronounced my name, you something-something-something before you turned me away..."?
That song is called Right Through You.
And I kind of don't want to touch You Oughtta Know out of reverence for it. I mean what Canadian person my age doesn't pretty much associate their youth with that song? That song was definitely the first time I heard a word beeped out on the radio...a joyous occasion, hah.
Plus I don't think I can pull of the "yo-UU yo-UU" slides. Alanis owns those.
Akiva
Good point. I think You Oughta Know was my junior high anthem. It was the very first CD I bought with my allowance money, AND it had a parental discretion sticker. How exciting was that?? And that acoustic Oughta Know is rocks my world.
Right Through You is fair game though. I think "Thank You" and "Uninvited" was 2000 or 2001 - after that whole India trek. Even if it was in the '90s though, I think Jagged's got a better selection that more effectively encaptures the decade, especially for our generation!
Yes, JAGGED LITTLE PILL captures the spirit with perfect, basically ANYTHING from it (unless you screw it up and I have to kill you ) would be great.
Ah, Alanis. Jagged Little Pill is such a great album.
I love "Mary Jane".
Oooh, I loved Mary Jane. Actually, that would be a good song choice as well.
Listen up you deaf pieces of vermin!
I don't know what the HELL you are hearing - but what I'm hearing is CRAP.
And the crap is who you are keeping!
I'm not going to list names - yet. But if certain people keep making it through...
I mean, were your people born in radioactive land? Do you have chemicals in your ears that are making crap sound good?
JESUS!
I am still holding out hope that one of the guys will pony up and bring "Candy" by Mandy Moore. The CD came out on Dec 7, 1999. It's fair game.
I love that song.
What BSo is trying to say in his own unique way is that he's sad as well that Ebby didn't make it through.
Hmm...I wonder who BSoBW120-0i93 is referring to?
Akiva
Patronus, didn't I already tell you? One of the male contestants have indeed "called" that song.
Tiff is correct.
I voted for Ebby!
Also, I am sad certain people DID make it through.
But congrats to WesternSky2!
No, Tiff. You most certainly did not tell me that! I am so excited.
Ebonic_Singer obviously has a better voice than some of the people remaining in the competition, BSo. The issue is that the category was country music. He was supposed to be doing Georgia On My Mind (the fact that it was listed as just Georgia aside) in the style of Willie Nelson. He sang it beautifully in a more soulful style, but staying within the context of the category is a factor as well.
That being said, there are at least two performances that I felt were "bootable" over ebonic_singers.
I am thrilled that Kelli Ripa is back as your avatar.
"That being said, there are at least two performances that I felt were "bootable" over ebonic_singers."
Yes, I can name three.
"I am thrilled that Kelli Ripa is back as your avatar."
Yes, I am, too. I have already received cease and desist messages. And now I have the sig to match.
