If it weren't for the enforeced stature, egads, just think women would have been treated equally for two thousand years. We would have been called to love our neighbor as ourselves. So much manipulated in a really radical document to turn it into the puppet enforcer of the ruling classes status.

All because of illiteracy! That wouldn't happen so easily today, some nosy journalist would have found the original copy and figured out what we all missed. Wasn't Mary Magdalene not really a whore, but demonized by the church to keep women lower? If I remeber correctly, they later admitted to having lied about that. Figures.

When not on BWW, gavrochegirl likes to IM with a bunch of random friends, gush over her Assassins and RENT CDs, go to school for no reason, and listen to Green Day until her head pops open. Caroline-Q-or-Tboo(see CQTBOO): Legend status, 3334 posts. Starter of many threads that died pretty quickly. Major part of Random Thread, and Bitches of Eastwick thread. Was part of angst thread for a time. Balances camp musical love (see Taboo, Closer to Heaven) with intense sondheim-esque musicals (Sweeny, Assassins, Pacific Overtures) hopes to direct one day. Straight male theaterlover (see Dieing Breed). In love with: Sara Ramirez, Jane Krakowski, Laura Benanti. Does school work grudginly. always feels invisible to everyone around him. Definitely designed to make Mary Magdaline seem lesser, just like the Gospel of Mary was cut out of the canon because it gave her equal status with the other disciples. I'd hope it wouldn't happen today but then again the King James Version has many of the same mistakes and many people consider that the only "real" bible. I mean it did "Drop from Heaven in 1611 with the words of Jesus in red."

Exactly. We have no way of knowing how much of that is true- and I wonder if any of the original documents are still in existence. They could be in a cave in Nowhere or else hidden in a secret vault. It's fun to imagine the conspiracies.

The interesting thing about Mary (Jesus' mother) is that she is sort of elevated above Joseph in that she's talked about more and is revered by Catholics. It's almost a false pedestal though, because it cement's a woman's place as mother, not a breadwinner.

Absolutely the earliest New Testament texts are dated to the 4th Century in the Codex Sinaticus. There are 4 hundred years of changes and destructuions that happened in there. Which is why I find the Nag hamadi non-canonical works so fascinating, they were the things rejected, we need to try to find out why and the uses they can have.

The Mother Mary figure is great when held equally with Magdaline, woman can be the mother the creative, the divine, and also the breadwinner, beloved one, the one who actually understands the teachings.

The thread is I admit a tad off of the topic, but others are still coming in and making their bios known.

I was born in a log cabin

Seriously, I was born 8/15/46 in Astoria NY. Rather uneventful life until 1974 when I started a love affair with movie palaces. Tried to fight city hall to save one from being demolished & found out you cannot fight city hall - part of the reason why I am now apolitical

Got interested in theater in th 1960's in public school. Public school also got me interested in reading & politics. My eternal thanks to the public school system for my interest in theater & reading. They had no way of know how ugly politics would become . I am so happy I dropped out of politics totally you have no idea

Met the Mrs from the personals & this September will be married 8 years. Got her interested in theater also. We love to travel & I am thankful I found the BWW website. I have met a few people here & a few others I may be meeting.

Obsessed with seeing shows, especially DRS lottery and anything on TDF. In Graduate School in NYC, when not on BWW or at a show.
Often seen flirting with many BWW members, and people in the real world or telling unfunny jokes, or very biting sarcastic comments. I'd like to thank, no one since I made it on my own, baby!

Ooh if we could put thank yous in, slight jack but here's an actual pretend acceptance speech I gave in front of my closet when I was 9...my cousin saw it and my whole family has never let me live it down.

IMsooHyprToday: Broadway Star. Number of posts- Nearing Legend starus. Credits: Off-Topic Posts are to numerous/forgettable to count. Sadly the Main Board topics dont fair much better. Also known to "Graham" as some, he uses BWW to feed the cravings for his unhealthy obsession wtih Avenue Q. Some of Grahams greatest accomplishments are coining the phrase "Q-Tips" in realtion to Avenue Q Fans and, and appearing on Cherrio Boxes (and other General Mills cereals) Nationwide and having Photos sprinkled across the Six Flags Websites.

Graham loves recieving PM's from strangers (aka soon to be friends) and often be seen finishing obscene comments wtih "..." which represent awkward scilence. Graham can often be found Andwering any question relating to iPods, iTunes, or anything Mac related. He would liek to thank all who PM him and talk to him online, but ESPECIALLY his dear real-life-second-cousin Jwei123, and broadwaystar2b, QTKT, Andyf, and Therese for introducing him to the BWW message board.

He also appologized profusley for any spelling/gramatical errors that may occur in his posts. Crappy things happen. Espcially when i type... i mean "he" types...

THERESE: Stand-by, 188 posts. Lurking since Summer '04, and still reading more than posting, her favorite topics are "Avenue Q" and anything to do with food. If she has any distinguishing trait, it is her obsessive infatuation with Rick Lyon. Therese has been a fan of musical theatre since infancy, being weaned on the OBC recording of "Sound of Music" and the movie soundtrack of "Oklahoma." At 8, she saved up her allowance money to buy the "Music Man" soundtrack, and never looked back. Therese thanks fellow Q-Tips QtKt and broadwaystar2b for giving her the nerve to join BWW, to Mr. Lyon for putting her back in touch with her Inner Teenager, and to the BWW community for so many interesting and informative (and just fun) discussions. Desperatly seeking culture in all its forms in the lovely state of Kentucky where culture is about as common as non-barefoot and pregnant women.
