Twilight is taking its place. It was announced today.
It does suck, but honestly I had kind of forgotten that there was a new POTTER movie coming out.
And people seem to not realize that the WGA strike did not affect the POTTER films, what the studio is saying is that they don't have any major summer film ready to be released in summer '09 due to the strike, therefore, they are saving this one big movie so that they have a big summer movie to release next year.
That sucks BIG TIME !!! It was the movie I was most looking forward to this year ! I understand it's studio politics, but they discovered that they have no big movies for next summer NOW ??? Just 3 months before the movie's release and AFTER the released trailer ???
The only good thing that comes out of this, is that now there's not gonna be such a huge gap between HBP and the first part of DH !
They didn't just discover it now. Part of the reason they feel comfortable moving it to next year is because the Dark Knight has hit it so big in recent weeks. They can "afford" to move it now. They don't have to worry about having any big hits in Fall '08.
If The Dark Knight had flopped or under-performed, Potter would have remained a fall release.
Good. Now Radcliffe won't have to take any time off from Equus for promtion.
Hey, good point!

On a related note, Entertainment Weekly didn't seem to get the memo, and went ahead with its cover of Radcliffe highlighting the Potter film for its Fall Movie Issue.
Oops.
They got the memo---AFTER their fall edition had already shipped. Ooops, indeed!
Entertainment Weekly did raise a good question in its fall preview question about the movie and the books being completed, will people run to the movie as much? Now with the movie being pushed back will people still run or will Harry Potter lose some steam without the books being published anymore? I am bummed though that preview online looked so darn good, got me so friggin excited to see Tom Riddle in the flesh. Darn that Joker and Two Face.

Since the movies have always run 'behind' the books anyway, I can't see how it would affect things. It's not like those addicted to reading it were flooding the theaters to get new information.
And, there ARE those who are actually only following the films.
But I feel sorry for them.
