"My question to you is, when we were out here protesting all last week for six days straight peacefully, there were no news cameras, there were no helicopters, there was no riot gear, and nobody heard us," she said. "So now that we've burned down buildings and set businesses on fire and looted buildings, now all of the sudden everybody wants to hear us."

"Why does it take a catastrophe like this in order for America to hear our cry?" she continued. "I mean, enough is enough. We've had too many lives lost at the hands of police officers. Enough is enough."

The American media are terrorists hidden under a veil of "right to free speech." They slant they way we see things and add fuel to the fire. Of course, the public feeds into it by boosting ratings and buying papers and hitting sites that carry the sensational. The truth is, in general, much less "sexy," and therefore gets ignored. But the media should have a responsibility here to show it all, all sides. Personally, I think a few more of them deserved to be pepper sprayed.

Thomas Roberts (from the article sited above) is right. Six days of peace. No coverage. One day of violence and everyone is out in full force. The delight (note sarcasm) in living near Baltimore these days is watching the media backtrack on itself, with pieces on the peaceful protesters and clean up, now. That coupled with reports on how inconvenient it all is for baseball fans who had tickets to a game. The Orioles officials, for the record, have been gracious and insightful and appear to be working toward helping with the problem, not adding to it... it is the media trying to create a story when there isn't one.

And then there's the mayor who was MIA during the most tragic and violent times of that day. Heck, even the governor called her out for waiting so long to ask for help. Of course, this is a mayor who, during a crippling snow storm "did her part" by shoveling a school sidewalk during a photo-op, while a few blocks away, homeless people froze to death.

I almost bought the National Enquirer yesterday because they purported to have Natalie Wood's diaries (in her own handwriting!), but I couldn't justify paying $4.99 for it.

Meanwhile, this guy beat Pat Robertson to the punch!

Last night on The Nightly Show, Larry Wilmore had three great black panelists. Tonight, two great black panelists and Bob Costas, who white mansplained (by talking over the other guests) that "thug" HAS a meaning and it's not racially pejorative. I was all, "White people, SHUT UP RIGHT NOW. You don't have the talking stick."

John Angelos interview

Chris Hayes aired an interview with John Angelos last night. He's the Baltimore Orioles COO whose quote I posted earlier in this thread.

Someone should convince this guy to run for Mayor.

The interview with Angelos starts about 5 minutes in.

I especially like it when he mentions "it takes a village."
