I didn't either. It sounded like someone misspoke, but Wikipedia verifies that it is:
Depraved-heart murder, also known as depraved-indifference murder, is an American legal term for an action that demonstrates a "callous disregard for human life" and results in death. In most states, depraved-heart killings constitute second-degree murder

In Maryland it carries a maximum sentence of 30 years imprisonment. This should have never happened in the first place and there's still going to be an extremely lengthy trial, but the SA did not mince words and has thrown the book at these police officers. Assuming the facts in the case, these are the toughest charges one could bring against the officers. Good for them.

You're confusing the degree (second) with the type or kind of second degree murder. It may be semantics to you but there is a noteworthy distinction since, depending on the jurisdiction, the kind of second degree murder -- depraved-heart in this case -- can contribute to the aggravating factors and ultimately impact the term or sentence, should a conviction be handed down.
