Seventies Barbra was stunning, and I love her, but I prefer hearing Karen Carpenter's version.

Even though Babs has aged very well in my opinion, she looked her best in the 70's. When I saw her in "Whats Up Doc?"my heart melted like buttah! She was GORGEOUS in that move, not to mention hilarious! My favorite Streisand film by far!

Mine, too, romantico! I also love her in Yentl and NUTS.

In terms of music, sixties Barbra could do no wrong. But where looks are concerned, I thought she was really beautiful in the early seventies (pre-perm!)

Dang! That's the Streisand I fell in love with.

The one who communicated more than presented.

The one who listened more than she talked.

The natural talent and YES beauty.

This video is golden. It's two geniuses getting together and having a conversation in song.

And there's NOTHING on this earth that's better.

...which is exactly why it's 1,000 times better than the crap that passes for "songs" today.

no that is not true. Today's songs are so awesome. Yes, Barbara has a great voice, but she's like really old now.

...and you're like really narrow in scope now.

But sing on, with your tripe, if you must.

No I am not narrow - I am being totally honest. She has a great voice, just she's old and fat. My friend saw her concert and said that she talked a lot about food.

Watching this makes me want to go and watch her tv specials.

Burt looked pretty damn good to I might add!

I saw one of her tv specials and it was ok. But it is very dated since it was in the 1960s and when you watch it today, you can't help but laugh at it.

She really is gorgeous. I still think she's got plenty of grace when she performs. But I see your point Besty.
Still, an awesome clip!

I don't like the clip. That just shows you how selfcentered Barbara really is.....to have all those Barbaras singing at the same time.

Barbra on Dissent, 02.26.03

===

My Right to Dissent

Several tabloids have been calling celebrities who have been outspoken against the war "traitors" or "friends of Saddam." As I have been grouped into this category, I feel that I need to say something in response to these outrageous accusations. Afterall, these celebrities are American citizens first, and we are thankful to live in this great country that allows us the right to express our opinions.

I, for one, am a patriotic American who loves this country. I love that we live in a democracy where we have freedom of speech, where every person enjoys the right and bears the responsibility to say what he or she believes, and where we enjoy the privilege of having public discussions and debates about the most controversial of issues.

To set the record straight, I think Saddam Hussein is a horrific dictator who should disarm. And I believe we should support the men and women who have been put in harm's way. But I do not think war is the answer right now. I believe there are other ways to disarm Saddam that must be explored before we resort to that most serious of options Ð a costly, deadly war. And I am not alone Ð millions of Americans and people around the world feel the same way I do. Are we all "traitors"?

At specific times in our recent history, our leaders (including Eisenhower, Kennedy and Reagan) , have chosen successful policies of containment over war when our country was faced with weapons of mass destruction... Now is the time for our current president to show the same level of restraint as his predecessors.

P.S. It used to be in politics that there was a certain amount of class and eloquence. The debate was civilized even though there were strong disagreements over deeply important questions. But, as usual, the Republicans have resorted to name-calling and mean-spiritedness. It's interesting how the actors that are criticized for their political activism always happen to be Democrats... The press does not criticize Republican actors Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Charlton Heston for expressing their strongly-held political opinions.

i love 70s Barbra...before the god awful Jon Peters perm. She looked beautiful with that long blond hair parted down the middle.

Yeah, her perm was a mess. Her perm in Meet The Fockers had some sort of joke she said about her 70's perm.I also liked The Main Event and I even liked parts of A Star is Born. Seems like Barbra post 1980 was not as good for me as 1960's and 1970's Barbra.

She never looked better, and while she's in fine voice, I still MUCH prefer the Karen Carpenter version.
