In my opinion, one of the best series in over a decade. The writing was solid and intelligent (especially for a children's show), and the voice acting (i.e. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill) was truly extraordinary. Not to mention Shirley's Jones's score, and the production design. Great stuff.
Do you guys remember this show? What did you think?

I remember it. It was awesome. I especially liked the voice work and the animation it was so "dark" for a kids cartoon. the movie version wasn't bad either. Updated On: 10/13/06 at 01:39 AM
Mask of the Phantasm? That was great. Very impressive, sharp dialogue. In fact, the plot for that movie was so complex, I didn't get all of it until I was in my teens.
Underrated? It's considered by many to be the finest adaptation from comics to screen in history and won an Emmy or two along the way, as well as completely creating a new visual style to super hero animation that's still being aped to this very day. Oh, and the DVD's sell extremely well. What is possibly underrated about this series? It was extremely successul and well-regarded critically and historically.
Didn't realize the impact it had on future shows. My bad.
I just haven't heard anyone mention it anywhere in a while.

I think this has been one of the best shows on tv, period. The writing was often very good, the art/cinematography was excellent. Technically speaking, the universe it existed in also qualifies it as one of the longest running series... having ended recently with Justice League Unlimited. These shows (Batman the Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, Superman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited) and the films that spawned from them will be very hard to top. The only misstep in my opinion was "Superman: Brainiac Attacks".

"Superman: Braniac Attacks"... yeah. that was pretty lame.
I LOVED this series when I was little, even though I wasn't into comic books at the time. I just remember that it felt so much more REAL than a lot of other series that played on Fox around that time of the afternoon. There are episodes that I distinctly remember beign geniunely frightening; the Scarecrow episodes in particular come to mind.
Then again, I couldn't watch "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" without freaking out.

Me neither! Oh, memories...
On another note, it took me years to figure out that Mark "Luke Skywalker" Hamill played The Joker. He really was f ucking awesome!

I loved that show. I remember when I was little I would dance to the opening credits. They just don't make cartoon shows like they used to. I think I still have a mini graphic novel of Mask of the Phantasm lying around somewhere.
