Affleck shines when he's not the main role. Maybe it's a psychological pressure thing, but I think he's the most interesting, the most fearless in his choices, when he's playing a secondary role.
It's like he shuts down and becomes a wooden Ken doll when he's the lead. The exception is when he directs himself. Otherwise, he's far better when the weight of a film isn't carried on his shoulders.
But we still have the wooden Henry Cavill for that burden. Ugh. He'll make Affleck look like Daniel Day-Lewis by comparison.
No, I'm not over-the-top excited or over-the-top skeptical about this movie. Ambivalence reigns supreme!
