Help a college kid out who is visiting NYC this december with my best friend....I need to know an AWSOME place to get chinese food. My true love in life. Ok...maybe not my true love...but Chinese food makes me really happy. So where's good? Where's trendy? More important...where is good?

If you want really trendy (aka expensive) gourmet Chinese food, check out China Grill in midtown.

Ok:
Here goes:
Best expensive chinese- Shun Lee (Near Lincoln center is the better atmosphere)
Best inexpensive: The Cottage the pretty one is on IRVING. Better service and food and better atmosphere. If you want free wine and no atmosphere go to the one on 76th and Amsterdam.
Dim Sum- Wo Hop Chinatown.

"Free wine and no atmosphere" is my middle name!
Whatever you do skip MEE!
I went back this week and the food was awful.
Other options:
Fancy atmosphere and Asian Fusion:
Ruby Foo's- (Times Square or UWS) The food is very good. It is more expensive than the Cottage but you can get japanese, thai and chinese.
The best japanese is Raku. But the atmosphere is not trendy. best prices RAKU Sushi.
Mention Corine's Corner for a great happy hour menu available from 5-6:30. A great value. Avoid the wine. Get beer and or Sake.
I love the milky sake and the Berryaki (fruit flavored sake. On the happy hour a giant glass is only $2.50)
They also have a great special menu from 5-6.

I always try to skip you, CoCo. :)
Very funny, Sue!
Mee is a chinese restaurant on 53rd. Lunch must be a different cook. I went two weeks ago and the food was fabulous. Dinner on Wed was not even edible and again the bathroom is scary. I held it in till I got home.
I went with my friend Tony a few weeks ago and we had a blast. I guess the company was what was fabu, not the food at MEE.

I thought Mee was uneven also. They catered a couple of events at New World and one time I loved the food, another time it wasn't good at all.
Jane,
I think the day Chef is great. The evening Chef is scary!!!
And if you see how dirty it is, it will ruin the entire experience.
I was nervous about getting sick.
The place is filthy.
I guess it isn't necessary to go there since there are so many others to choose from!
There is a great thai place across the street and it is clean and nice. I can't remember the name. But they have great Pinot Noir on the happy hour.

I was hearing it in Harvey's voice, like I hear most things.
I love Harvey!!!!
I wish I still had his tape from Broadway Cares. It was on my cellphone and it made me smile every single day.
I will NEVER go back to MEE.

I've been to Paradise, but I've never been to MEE.
Paradise is GUANA ISLAND.
And Harvey singing Fiddler.
And Boris interviewing Harvey. HA!
