Ollie's was always convenient because of its location and you never had to wait to be seated, but I personally didn't find the food there anything more than the run of the mill Chinese food you get anywhere. You know, not awful, but not great!

I'm only posting this negative review because this thread was asking for the best in NYC. Ollie's isn't even in contention.

But I'm glad you liked it, Eponine Amneris re: Best Chinese Food in NYC??

Jane, I agree.
Although, Ollie's on 68th make the best scallion pancakes, ever!

Dim Sum- Wo Hop Chinatown

Although not if you have an MSG allergy like I do. I almost went into cardiac arrest after eating there a few summers ago

I miss the midtown Ollie's, too. The food was good enough, but mostly for its convenient location.

Agreed, emcee. Whenever we couldn't think of anywhere else to go, there was always Ollie's. Nowadays, I'd probably go to John's Pizza instead. Same deal. Average food, no wait!

There is that new one on 42nd and 9th. Not nearly as good a location, but not too bad, I guess.

I'm sorry to read that Corine thinks that Raku has no atmosphere. It might not be a fine dining atmosphere - but I find it charming and so has everyone I've ever gone with.

If you're feeling bold and adventurous - head over to the east side for a place called Pig Heaven. Great chinese food. I know - you'd think it was a BBQ place based on the name, but sincerely - it's great. Their lettuce wraps are incredible and so are pretty much all their dished. I've never been disappointed.

I love Raku but it is not trendy. He asked for a trendy atmosphere. Ray and his staff are charming and I go several times a week.
Ray has told me I go more than anyone else. I have never seen you there, Craig.
FYI- Raku is my favorite restaurant in NYC bar none for sushi.
I consider it my living room. Updated On: 11/5/07 at 12:16 PM

"Help a college kid out who is visiting NYC this december with my best friend....I need to know an AWSOME place to get chinese food. My true love in life. Ok...maybe not my true love...but Chinese food makes me really happy. So where's good? Where's trendy? More important...where is good? "

Actually. He asked for Chinese, not Japanese anyway. And more important than trendy was that it's good.

Back on topic - Pig Heaven would be my choice. It's also well reviewed by patrons and critics alike.
