I'll admit the very small minority, but I would never include UNITED 93. (I found it anything but an artful take on those events, lacking a point of view other than "never forget." I said I'm in the minority...) I also will be very suprised if it doesn't end up with a slew of Golden Globes and even Oscar nominations.

Other than FRIENDS WITH MONEY, nothing's come out this year so far I'd want to put in my DVD collection, which is my own barometer.

I hope The Devil Wears Prada wasn't released to early in the year for Meryl Streep's performance to be recognized come awards season. She most definetly deserves an Oscar nomination for one of the best comedic performances in recent memory.

Meryl Streep would get an Oscar nomination if her movie came out January 1st. I don't think release dates affect her or ever will.

The one film that surprised me more than any other so far this year was THE BREAKUP. I thought it was one of the most honest portraits of the ending of a relationship that I've seen on film in a very long time. And it proves that Jennifer Aniston is one hell of an actress. I'm sure she won't get an Oscar nomination but she should start picking out a dress for the Golden Globes.

Giving 3 stars to THE HILLS HAVE EYES is a JOKE.

You're a joke, munk. Let others have their own opinions, for a change. I know I'm not the first to tell you that. Updated On: 7/9/06 at 09:19 PM

Best movie of the year in my opinion is V for Vendetta.

Cars gets an honorable mention

Ugh. Nacho Libre looks even worse than Napoleon Dynamite.

Sandwich, I thought that Nacho Libre was awful, and this is coming from someone who loved Napoleon Dynamite.

I haven't seen that many new movies this year, but I'll play!

And in no particular order:

Superman Returns
V For Vendetta
Devil Wears Prada
Madea's Family Reunion

broadway86, I'll definitely hate it, then. ND is one of the least funny films I've seen in the past five years.

Yes, you probably would hate it.

I also agree that The Hills Have Eyes getting three stars...total joke.

I'm sorry you feel that way, EM. Updated On: 7/9/06 at 10:50 PM

Is it odd that I found Superman to actually be quite boring? It had excellent imagery, but it felt like 3 hours of boring. The friends I went with were guys and were in it the entire time. They say I don't like it because it's a guy thing. I couldn't disagree more, but then again, I'm really not a superhero-movie lover type.

I, too, thought V for Vendetta was great.

That's the only that sticks in my mind at the moment. There are some other, like Thank You for Smoking, that I never got to see (that I really wanted to see).

I don't know, I think Meryl would have had a very good chance at a nomination for The Manchurian Candidate had it not been released so early. Nevertheless, I was very surprised the Academy didn't notice her for that, especially seeing as she's pretty much the Oscar's darling.

I would say Cars...

Of course this is coming from someone who has only seen that, Over the Hedge, and Ice Age 2. Can you tell I only go to the movies with my 3 year old?
