Moulin Rouge
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

re: Best Films of the 21st Century (so far)

I agree with almost every single one on MEF's list (with the exception of "Talk to Her", which I haven't seen yet).

I, personally, thought the performances carried Mystic River (Sean! Tim! Kevin! Marcia! Wow!) and the film looked good stylistically, but the movie as a whole didn't do much for me.

Almost Famous for me is one of the best films of all time, so of course I would put it in best of the 21st century so far.

I left off FINDING NEMO. It blew all other Pixar movies out of the water - including TOY STORY and the overrated THE INCREDIBLES.

Other than the 2 Final Destinations, National Treasure, House of Wax and the masterpiece that is Femme Fatale, I've been rather bored by the films of the 21st Century.

Let me add TWENTY-ONE GRAMS, forwhich Sean Penn would have gotten the Oscar if he had not made MYSTIC RIVER, and Spike Lee's completely overlooked THE TWENTY-FIFTH HOUR.

This year, CRASH is the best movie so far.
