So according to them, CRASH is the 6th worst best picture winner of all time. Looks right to me.
And personally, I think the list is just fine, though I would probably place SCHINDLER'S LIST, THE DEER HUNTER, and THE APARTMENT higher.
Thoughts?

I think I need to start seeing more movies.
My favorite film of all time, Amadeus, is ranked #15. I'm happy about that.
Everyone has one movie that they think shouldn't have won best picture.
I personally can't believe Gigi won. WTF?
Thank Heaven For Little Girls is the creepiest song of all. How old was Chevalier anyway when he did this?
How did REBECCA and MARTY break into the Top Ten?
The Greatest Show on Earth LAST? Come on, if only for Betty Hutton and Gloria Graham it should outrank at least Forrest Gump and English Patient.
One word...... TITANIC!? God that movie was awful.
i think Million Dollar Baby should be around last...
I disagree with The Life of Emile Zola being so low!
It's a terrific film, with a brilliant performance by Paul Muni, and an Oscar-winning supporting performance by Joseph Schildkraut (sp?).
And The Sound of Music and Oliver! both below The English Patient? Not in any universe I'm familiar with.
This list is biased against musicals, and I'm so sick and tired of that mindset. It's boring and shortsighted.
EDIT: Oh, and they also goofed up. They have "Sunrise" down as a Best Picture winner. It won "Best Unique & Artistic Picture" that year (the only year that award was ever given out), but the Best Picture (Production) award winner for 1927-28 was "Wings."
I'd bump 'Gump' and 'Return of the King' to the bottom of the list (although Gump's pretty close already.) 'Siilence of the Lambs' I'd shove down somewhere into the bottom 20 or so. Oh and I'd put 'Dances With Wolves' at 134th, just to plan for the next fifty or so years where there will be Best Picture winners, all of which will have to be better than that movie.
I'd put 'Amadeus' in the top 5.
Honestly, I have to say, I've seen every single one of these films... in fact, I own them all, in my cute little Best Picture collection... and they're all pretty damn good. The best of their given years? Not necessarily.
But I enjoy (to some degree) every single one of them.

It's not how I would order the list.
But, they didn't ask me.
Godfather should be in the end of the top 10s
I would bump silence of the lambs and my fair lady up along with chicago and amadeus
Am I alone in thinking that THE DEER HUNTER needs to be higher?
i disagree about your thoughts on Schindler's List. Although a very well made, good, and powerful film, it was extraneously long.
Oh, I don't think so. However depressing as it is, there's not a boring or wasted moment.
I agree that THE DEER HUNTER should be higher...I love that movie. I would also put THE GODFATHER PART TWO before I would put part one on my list, but that's just my bias.
maybe I'm just a heartless meanie, but i felt the ending was completly unnecessary (sp...?) and a waste of time. though the final shot was lovely.
Rebecca is great movie but is it one of the all time greatest? I'm not sure about that. I do remeber that it scared the s**t out of me when I was a kid. So creepy!
Bump for the addition of THE DEPARTED.
My personal list would look something more like this... based on what I like and my own tastes...
1. Gone with the Wind
2. The Sound of Music
3. West Side Story

b12b: You're a man after my own heart! I've seen all but two (OLIVER!, HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY) of your "top ten Best Picture winners" and actually consider the remaining eight as some of my favorite movies of all time.
I've seen 36 of those films.
I'd place THE DEPARTED and THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING much lower.
Top ten, of those I have seen:
1) Shindler's List
2) The Sound of Music
3) Amadeus
4) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
5) Forrest Gump
6) West Side Story
7) Oliver! Gone With The Wind
9) American Beauty
10) Shakespeare In Love
Just watched THE APARTMENT for the first time last week. While I thought it was a great plot and script, I didn't care so much for it in general. Acting was good. I had trouble getting emotionally involved with the protagonists.
I'm surprised The Departed made it so high on the list. Don't know if I agree or disagree, but I definitely didn't expect to find it at #30.
Crash should be number 80 no question. Godfather and Godfather 2 should be switched. Then again I'd rank Godfather II first with Waterfront remaining at 2 and Godfather at number 3.
