Any suggestions would be much appreciated,
Honestly? Anywhere you would eat with a companion. I often eat alone in the city...I go wherever strikes my fancy. Never had any issues anywhere. And I've never noticed any one place being better or worse because of it.
Mildred, I eat at Vynl (9th Avenue between 50th & 51st) every time I'm in NYC. I eat there with friends or alone. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and the place is a lot of fun, so I don't mind eating there by myself from time to time.
The Film Center Cafe, 635 9th Ave. at 45th St, is extremely friendly, and you will be comfortable either at the bar or at a table. Not to mention good food as well.
Hello,
Here are some of my suggestions:
If you like sushi: Bamboo 52 on 52nd and 9th. I go there all the time alone and the food is great and they have great happy hour prices.
The Edison diner or Westway diner.
Cascina Italian restaurant.

I get to NYC 3-4 times a year, and always go by myself. Junior's in the middle of the theatre district has great food, and I eat there quite frequently. You can sit at the bar, and have a great meal.
At first glance, I read the title as "Best Places to Die Alone..."
Ick.

How can you stand to eat alone? Everyone in the restaurant is staring at you and talking about how pathetic you are.

Jaunt a bit over to 51st and 10th--the great Irish bar/restaurant Druids. Great burger, good beer selection and you'll probably have a good chat with someone at the bar.
pre-matinee: Cafe Edison (aka Edison Diner)228 W 47th St
pre-or post evening: any of the many little restaurants on and just off of Ninth Avenue between 42nd and 52nd... Yum Yum Cafe (Thai), Cara Mia (Italian), or the unbelievably picturesque Hourglass Tavern at 373 West 46th Street.
Ok, it took me a minute to realize "stand toe at" is not some new expression I needed to decipher.

My face is crimson with shame! I'd rather eat alone than make a typo!
I do that all the time, Joe.......don't fret.
I second the Film Center Cafe. I have only eaten there once, but the salmon was perfection. Vynl is good, too. Avoid Juniors. The food is okay, but grossly overpriced.

I keep reading it the same way Mr. Matt, and without the Adonis and New David Cinemas, there's really no place left.

Go to any restaurant. Bring a book or magazine. It's not a crime to dine alone.
My favorite place to eat in the theatre district is Famous Ray's Pizza up on 8th. (In the 50's). I just love grabbing a slice or two, a drink and just watching the people. If I don't get there, my trip is not complete!
Namo - As if you ever alone at the Adonis or the New David.
I love eating alone. I know it sounds weird but I love it.

Corine, we all know the real reason you dine alone is that very few people want to be seen in public with you. That's a fact.

STFU Dollypop. Leave her alone.
Does Dollypop still pretend to be Christian? And does anyone still fall for it?
Hey Matt and Roses.
I have plenty of friends but sometimes I want chinese or sushi and they don't! I have enough confidence to sit by myself and I usually meet the most interesting people when I go alone.
I am pretty confident and very outgoing and social and I usually meet the best people when I am alone.
I will just ignore the sad, pathetic bully he is not worth it.
