WORST: Paul McCartney's "Wonderful Christmas Time" -- way too much airplay
BEST: all Hymns. For contemporary fave "Baby It's Cold Outside".

My favorite songs are the classic traditional numbers, especially O HOLY NIGHT, I HEARD THE BELLS ON CHRISTMAS DAY, and I WONDER AS I WANDER. I also love all of the golden age Christmas recordings by Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, etc.
The songs I hate: DON'T THEY KNOW ITS CHRISTMAS? (I think that is the title..its the 'Feed the World' one), LAST CHRISTMAS, CHRISTMAS SHOES (too much schmaltz), and I am sure that there are more I am leaving out.

I hate any version of Blue Christmas. Oh, and while I don't "hate" it, I'm generally sick to death of any of the millions of versions of Santa Baby.
Some of my favorites are:
O Holy Night (Johnny Mathis)
God Bless Us Everyone (Celine Dion)
Christmas Will Be Just Another Lonely Day & Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee)
Do You Hear What I Hear? (Linda Eder)
The Christmas Waltz (Harry Connick, Jr. or Doris Day)

The absolute worst is the one with the shoes. Christmas Shoes, is it? Oy vey! It's horrible!
The best is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as sung by a one Mr. James Taylor.

Like:
Silent Night by Stevie Nicks
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland
Christmas Canon by Trans-Siberian Orchestra (it's a bit repetitive, but somehow hypnotic)
Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt (so wonderfully sophisticated as only Eartha can sing it)
Silver & Gold - Burle Ives
Same Old Lang Syne - Dan Fogelberg (a bit sentimental, but who hasn't had a moment in their life when they think what might have been)
The Bells (Edgar Allen Poe poem) - Morman Tabernacle Choir (It used to be on one of those records they gave out at gas stations)
Dislike:
Happy Christmas (War is Over) - Yoko Ono is dreadfully offkey and makes it a tough listen
Christmas Shoes (nothing like dying mothers needing new shoes on Christmas to wish someone a Merry Christmas)

12 days of Christmas - (especially the Frank Sinatra and his kids version)

"I can't believe people can't appreciate the Awesomely Badness of 'The Christmas Shoes.'
There are two types of bad: so bad that it's good and just plain bad.
A person can enjoy watching Mommie Dearest because it's so bad that it's good.
A person cannot enjoy listening to Christmas Shoes because it is just plain bad. It has no redeeming qualities.

Favorite version of the song: Liza & Alan Cumming.
Amen! It is not Christmas for me until I hear these two! It is sheer perfection from beginning to end
I also have to put in a vote for "Merry Christmas Darling." Plus it's VERY cheesy, but "The Gift Goes On" by Sandi Patty was a big favorite of mine as a kid.

LOVE:
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses
Do They Know it's Christmas? - BAND-AID
Christmas in Hollis - Run DMC
Sleigh Ride - The Ronettes
Marshmallow World - Darlene Love
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - U2 version
The Little Drummer Boy - David Bowie with Bing Crosby
Last Christmas - George Michael
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Version by The Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan
The one Billy Squier sings. The name escapes me, but I love it.
All I Want for Christmas - Mariah Carey. I hate her. I hate her style of singing, but for some reason I love this song and have to give her kudos for crafting what's become a really enjoyable, modern Christmas classic.
The traditional stuff: Greensleeves, What Child is This? and O Holy Night
I'll join in on the hate for the Christmas Shoes song and Wonderful Christmastime. Also, I've always hated Domic the Donkey, My Grown Up Christmas Wish and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.

Favorites:
-"Here Mid the Ass and Oxen Mild" (Shaw, that soprano solo over the choir is just haunting...and the female harmonies...I need a new pair of underwear...)
-"What Child is This" (Rutter, the Cambridge Singers have this on "Christmas with the Cambridge Singers" and it is chill inducing...again with a haunting soprano solo/descant)
-Anything by Mediaeval Baebes
-A few arrangements of "There is No Rose"
-Sam Phillips arrangement of "It Came Upon A Midnight Clear"
-Kiri Te Kanawa's "I Know My Redeemer Liveth" (and I'm not a big Kiri fan..)

One of my favs is "Peace Carol" by John Denver & The Muppets.
Other than that, I'm more of a traditionalist. There aren't to many that make me cringe.
