Today I went to a country fayre and ate the most beautiful cake in the world ever.
It looked like that, only instead of being normal cupcake, it was chocolate, the icing was orange instead of pink, and the roses were dark pink and purple. I admired it for about fifteen minutes before I could convince myself to start eating it, and then made the eating part last another ten. It was wonderful. :3
So I thought we could have a thread on here about my favourite thing that's not theatre or dogs: cake!
There's also a WONDERFUL cake on the internet that was designed to look like a thoracic cavity. I advise you NOT to follow this link if you are excessively squeamish. https://www.theyrecoming.com/extras/pumpkinfest03/ The temptation is to construct one for my wedding cake, should I ever get married. It's pretty awesome.
I also once (actually, twice...) made a cake out of tomato soup. I found the recipe in a children's book around Christmas time and it was so ODD sounding that I just couldn't resist! It just tastes like a nice kind of fruit cake, but with a slightly odd red/orange colour to it. One day I'm going to get a recipe to make a cake out of courgettes; I love the idea of a courgette cake!
For new year, one of my friends made a whole platter of cakes that looked like sushi. She cut up jelly cubes for cod-roe, made prawns out of marzipan, had marshmallow omelette, little balls of green icing for wasabi, and a little dish of chocolate sauce for soy sauce. It was utterly fantastic! I'll have to see if I can find pictures somewhere.
Anyhoo. I'd better hush. But OMG cake! ^_^
(It occurs to me that the thoracic cavity cake does not look wholly dissimilar to my avatar...)
But I'm sure it doesn't taste half as good as your avatar would.
Has anyone ever seen this?
Worst PROFESSIONALLY MADE cakes ever...
CAKEWRECKS!
There are few things that can make me happier than good pound cake.
My new favorite is a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. It requires you to go immediately to church afterwards and confess your sins, even if you're not Catholic... or religious.

I would shed blood for a good cupcake. They are my fave food.
I think the best cupcakes I've had were from Magnolia Bakery in NYC -- but I have never met a cupcake I did not like.
I enjoy the cupcakes from Buttercup Bake Shop, which of course is owned by one of the former Magnolia Bakery owners/founders.

I cannot stress how nasty I found the cupcakes at Magnolia. The carrot cake was really good, though. The carrot cake at The Little Pie Company is even better. And if you don't like cake, I would suggest their key lime pie.
I love cake! I wish I could have some chocolate right now. And I'm glad I'm alone in my bedroom right now looking at that cake wrecks website because I just nearly died laughing at the picture of the cake with the naked babies riding carrots. LMAO!!!!!! I still can't stop laughing about that one.

Oooh, I'll have to check that place out next time I'm in the city. (October, YAY!)
Thanks for the recommendation, adamgreer!

You're welcome!! I think the reason I like it is because it's much easier to get to from the theater district then Magnolia (walkable, on a nice day) and the line is never as ridiculous.

I have tears in my eyes from laughing at that cakewreck site!
I KNOW, her captions make them all the better!!!
Who here actually bakes??? My favorite thing to make is tiramisu but I use this wicked awesome white cake recipe, and the cake from that recipe IS SO GOOD alone.

I bake, but not overly well.
I love making red velvet cupcakes.
Cupcakes make a great birthday gift to give.

I LOVE this cake.
I bake from time to time. I make whatever I feel like making. I'll admit, my 10th grade biology project probably belongs on that cake wreck website. We were given a type of cell to research about, and then make a model of it out of edible products. I got the bacteria cell, so I made a cake and it ended up okay for the project, but it certainly had too much going on.
Look at Chenowith's cake!
heh. Lots of Belvedere, I see.
Because the link won't work... click here
Like I said, this is my favorite:
I told my mom I want it for my next birthday.
The funniest part of Cheno's cake is that is says 29.

Would any one dare to begin to guess what kind of celebration that naked baby carrot mohawk cake might be for?
Some sort of baby army party?
