I "stumbled" across the season the other day and watched it for the first time since its initial airing back in 2000. I found the show to be funny, and by funny I meant anything Bette did on screen. While I will argue its not classic comedy sit-com I must say I laughted out loud on more than one occasion.
Also quick question: Does anyone know why Lindsey Lohan was replaced as her daughter in the show?

I think they wanted a daughter who looked more like her.
This show was terrible.
The show was a dud.
A poor idea poorly executed, with everyone obviously trying way too hard. Other than that, it was terrific.

The only joke I liked was the fan who told her that she wanted to see one of Bette's movies but she was going away on business trip and couldn't go opening weekend. Luckily, the movie bombed so bad that when she was flying home a few days later it was already the in-flight movie. That was funny, but so accurate that it had to sting a little.

The episode where Bette flew first class and Joanna Gleason was in coach had me gasping for breath, I laughed so hard. There were copious flashbacks to their younger days and hilarious lines.
Bette, yelling back to coach: "Connie!! Wasn't 'Gandhi' LONG?"
Plus, she made it rhyme with Candy.
Poorly executed, you say? Trying too hard, you say? NEVA!

What I loved was that Bette would be interviewed and talk about she didn't let her daughter watch television and even during the run of her show she gave the impression that she was too good for tv. Then she forced this dreck upon the masses. I wouldn't let my kid watch tv either if she stood the chance of stumbling across me in that hot mess.

It needed a producer who had a clearer vision of what was really possible, and the cajones to find and hire a writing staff that got the idea.
Um, personally I loved it when I was younger. I remember an episode where this fan of hers was crying with her over the ending to "Beaches" and I love me some Bette, so...
It wasn't perfect, but I often enjoyed it. It had a lot of potential.

It was very, very bad.
One time she was dressed as peanut and hilarity ensued when she rolled around her bedroom. Dressed like a peanut!
I, too, recently "stumbled" onto this show. (Funny how that happens...) It is truly awful, and I love every minute of it.
Bette talked openly about how much she hated doing that show, so watching her be such a trooper during the especially, er, difficult moments is a special treat for me.

The only episode I remember being genuinely funny was the one where she won some award and forgot to thank her husband, so she set out to find another award to win so she could thank him.
The only episode I remember
Maybe you'll have the good fortune of "stumbling" on it, too. I don't remember any of them being GENUINELY funny. Just enjoyable, made more so after the fact. If the show had been well received or had a good run I doubt I would love it as much.
