I love nature, and have never been put off by the inherrent violence that it entails - BUT, this freaked me out a little bit. It seems like a predator leaping outside what are considered its normal boundaries.
Last night I watched a large Mantis crawling around in our courtyard - under a tree that Hummingbirds flock to - and I'm wondering if I need to watch out!

Oh great, now I have to worry about snakes with feet and 50-foot mantises.

Well, wasn't it technically a snake with a CLAW not a foot? I mean, it used the nails to dig so as to crawl across the wall of the Chinese woman's bedroom so...
Sleep tight!

The Mantis was back in our courtyard this evening.
I gently found a way to coax it into my hands, and relocated it to a nearby park.
The Hummingbirds are on their own.
