Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

Man, the stamina on that guy. Just about 3.5 hours (started at 8:30, ended a bit before midnight). Helluva showman...can't hit the high notes anymore, but what a show he puts on.

4 special guests - Tony Bennett, John Mellancamp, John Mayer, and Don Henley. Also had a number of Policemen, Firefighters, and what looked like the Marines on "Goodnight, Saigon."

Billy did his big hits, a couple of Beatles songs, and 2 hits from aforementioned Mellancamp and Henley. Bennett joined on "NY State of Mind" and I forget what Mayer played on.

They're makin' it a movie - described as a "Ken Burns film if he did a concert pic." If you don't have the chance to get to Shea on Friday and didn't see it today, you have another shot...

re: Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

I was there. Mayer joined in on guitar for This is the time.

I personally loved how he took a break from River of Dreams to do hard days night. He is an outspoken Beatles fan and I knew that he was going to do some of thier stuff considering he is the last musical act to play Shea.

I really wanted him to do Miami 2017 and that was what he opened with. Well technically he opened with the national anthem.

I had heard that they are going to release it as a CD as well. i don't know if they are going to relase each concert as it's own 2 cd set or if they are going to do what they did for the 12 Gardens concert album and make a mix of songs from both nights.

I'm really not interested in seeing a six-hour plus concert film. re: Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

How was the sound at Shea? I went to concerts there decades ago, and the poor sound is my clearest memory.

Thank goodness for the movie. I really wanted to see this concert especially after seeing one of his phenomenal 12 Garden performances.

But the ticket prices were just a bit out of my reach. Ah well. At least I've gotten to see him once and I look forward to the release of the film.

re: Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

Sound was very, very good - the one complaint I had was that you could hear the 3-second delay in another set of speakers echoing whenever he talked.

All I hope is that the special guests on Friday are the same...if Paul McCartney and Elton John show up, I'm gonna be mighty pissed.

Would have loved to have gone - glad they're releasing it as a movie! I saw him three times before - twice by himself, once with Elton John. He's such a great performer, and his music is some of my favorite.

So jealous you went Yankee! I wanted to see him at Mohegan Sun, but tickets were too expensive.

Yeah, it was pricey. But so were the $40 t-shirts and the $30 parking field charge. Luckily I got a spot on the street.

I went to concerts there decades ago and my clearest memory is screaming so loud and so long that I completely lost my voice for the next 2 weeks.

Seeing the Beatles there was a MAJOR event in my life and it feels really strange and sad to know that place won't exist anymore.

re: Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

Great night! You can't appreciate his greatness until you see him perform and realize that he's played for 3+ hours and could probably perform for another 2 hours and never perform every song he's ever written. I loved it all but when he did both songs that get to me every time, "Good Night, Saigon" and "Lullabye", I thought I'd lose it. It was also great to hear "Zanzibar" again. Great job by the band, the special guest stars and most of all, King Billy himself.

I was in the upper deck and far removed from the stage but felt as much a part of it than any concert that I've been on the floor for. The Beatle songs were so special and the sound was great for the music but not as great when Billy spoke. I could have done without some of the special effects on the screens, but all in all, a very special night.

Long live Shea! We hardly knew ye.

How do you get tickets?? How much are tickets? And if it's not sold out, where can I get tickets?

Last time I saw Billy Joel in concert, it was for $30 floor seats in a venue across the street from my building. I think I grinned for a week straight afterward.

I've seen Billy more than any other performer live. As a former keyboardist, he's where I gravitated. I'm so happy to see he's still out there doing what he knows best.

He IS The Piano Man.

Garth Brooks, Roger Daltry, Steven Tyler, and Paul McCartney were there last night.

re: Billy Joel at Shea Stadium

When I first purchased my tickets, I was purchasing what was advertised as the "last" concert in Shea Stadium. Of course, then they added a show for Friday night. Unfortunately, I was not able to get tickets for that one. Of course, Paul McCartney makes an appearance to close the Friday night concert. Even though I loved the Wed night show, my heart is broken because I missed one of my all time favorites to close the show. Being that Shea is second in my heart to Broadway theatre, I am a bit depressed. Billy Joel did address the issue on Wed, saying that because of scalpers, they added the second show so that more people could get tickets.

My question is by adding a second show, isn't that just allowing more scalpers to get more tickets and make even more money??
