Got some buddies in
"SMALL TRAGEDY" at Playwrights Horizons
The reviews have been wildly mixed, but apparently it's quite "controversial" (remember when that word had the whiff of naughtiness and mystery? Now it's so overused.). But seriously, if anyone's seen it, I would love to hear about it.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

Speaking of which, Salome was even more excellent the second time around; Bryn Terfel as Jokanaan was a welcome addition. I'm half considering going to its closing, though I'd rather pool my cash into standing through Die Walkurie on Saturday and Nabucco (with Leo -Le sigh- Nucci) on Monday.

I saw Leo Nucci the first time I went to the Met back in 89, 90.... he was singing Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia (with Kathleen Banshee.... I mean Battle). From there a strange series of ocurrences led me to see him perform in four other operas at the Met and elsewhere. It's only kosher that I go to see him in Nabucco.

Nabucco's great, but I'll always be a Traviata/Rigoletto gal at heart.

I think we all know where the "Intrigue" is. Due south of Vim and Vigor.

I'm sorry. That was very lecherous. I'm not normally that sneery.

I'd update it out, but I think it's funny anyway. :)

I'm promoting myself shamelessly as a fun and respectful guy!

Congrats, you little lecher, you.

re: A Star is Born

I was a super in Mefistophele with Sam Ramey and the world premiere of Tod Machover's Resurrection. Though I never sang or spoke, I had a spectacular death scene in Resurrection. You can hear me being whipped on the CD during the March sequence (it was recorded live) and if you squint, you can see me in one of the photos in the booklet included with the CD. It's the closest I've come to being on a cast recording.

Did you super at the Met, Matt? I'm trying to land a supering gig there for next season.

Supernumeraries/spear carriers. "Extras," if you will. It's a great way to share the stage at the Met with Roberto Alagna while not being able to sing.

Mmmm.... Roberto Alagna.
