givesmevoice, was that your mom I was pelting with snowballs from inside my house?

Aw, must be! She came in covered in snow, poor dear. That's a pretty impressive arm you have, though!
Enjoy the snow. I am in Central PA, and we have no snow whatsoever. I was hoping we would at least get an inch by now. Doesn't seem likely.

I just went to push open the front door and couldn't.

Haha, I think DP was just joshing.
I can't find out if the 1pm end time for the state of emergency has been extended or not. I have to think it would be but I haven't found any confirmation on that.
State Of Emergency Declared In New Jersey
In central Jersey...we are getting pounded...visibility is .50 and it is freezing...not looking forward to shoveling tomorrow...thinking about paying a kid to do it for me
I should be shoveling but I'm a little concerned what going out there with a fever will do.
violet, I think we're going to pay someone to shovel us out, too. I'll be way too busy drinking to do it, and my mom unfortunately has to go to work tomorrow. Although I could always ask my grandma to do it...
Looks like I will have to use excuse # 3 for not going in to work tomorrow. I got stuck at my brotherin laws house in Jersey. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge.
No blizzard here in north jersey. Just really windy, snowy, and freezing.

Not sure what part of north Jersey you're at, but where I am we're going to be getting a foot of accumulation at least. Which I will get to shovel tomorrow. Urgh.
OTOH, my other choice this week was to be in Philadelphia, where about half the citizenry doesn't believe in shoveling at all.
I'm on the western side of Sussex county. Our snow forecast was only 8-12 inches. I don't know how much is actually outside now.
Bergen County here. When the first crack of lightning hit, it blew out a transformer a few blocks from us. We were at about 1/3 power from 4:30 to 7:30, then completely blacked out until 11:45 last night. We haven't had a snow-plow come through yet and we're at the intersection of the two most-used local roads in the area. There are stranded all over the area waiting for any help at all.
Is NJ still in a state of emergency? I have only found one article saying so.
Nevermind

I work at the movies, and the theater didn't shut down even though our last customer was at 6:00. I got stuck in the snow for three hours at 11:30 about a mile from house. It was a major bummer walking home to get a shovel, then going all the way back. Three hours later, I was finally asleep.

This snow is heavy to shovel.
Dolly, when it is a light snowfall it is easier to shovel. We had a heavy snowfall thus.....
Having been on the other end last year at this time at the airport, I feel for those affected. Having said that, it is better to be on this end this year.
I actually thought the snow itself was relatively easy to shovel. It was challenging because some of the drifts were so high and eventually I had nowhere to put the snow. But this seemed to be a light, powdery snow.

My cousin is a meteorologist and he explained that some areas on Long Island had ice and /or rain mixed with the snow. That's shy it's a heavy snow in one spot and light in others.
The person who was supposed to shovel us out never showed. Perfect.
After a half an hour of shoveling my fever spiked and I feel worse than before I went out.
Streets aren't too terrible in my neighborhood, but in midtown it's AWFUL! Cars are getting stuck all over the place. There are corners on 8th ave that are not walkable unless you want to step into snow that goes up to above your knees.
All of my coworkers are stranded in their home states. I stayed in NYC, thus I will be alone at work tomorrow. Doing EVERYBODY'S job after a three day weekend. Great.
Well, my attempts to get someone to help with the driveway have fallen on deaf ears. I went out for a bit last night but ended up with a temperature of 93 degrees.
