Re: It's A Wonderful Life with Hilty, Rannells, Burgess, coming to the Broadhurst

Oct 2, 2026 — 2:47:18 PM

Didn't see 1940s Radio Hour in its original run, but I have seen a couple good community and school productions of it. This style of play is delightful if the scripts are props and the actors really dig in.

You can't knock the guy for trying. Witney is doing a great job adapting the choreography to his skill level.

Can't wait for Genie to disappear before the tap and show up on another part of the set community theater Reno Sweeney-style.

Re: How did The Lost Boys lose to Schmigadoon??

Aug 31, 2026 — 6:11:23 PM

Schmigadoon is a very polished musical comedy packed with references to beloved musicals. I really liked The Lost Boys, but it's not going to win a Broadway popularity contest over the very polished love letter to golden age musicals.

Goodness. Wishing a speedy recovery to the cast members. Was not expecting Operation Mincemeat of all shows to have so many accidents.

Re: We need another Gypsy revival

How about Varla Jean Merman as Rose, Murray Hill as Herbie, Alaska as Louise, and good old Ging Minj as Baby June? Or we could just let this one rest at the Lincoln Center Library for a while.

Next to Normal Pink 2027

Jun 25, 2026 — 9:57:57 AM

I could see something like Sweet Charity being a good vehicle that they can fit around her performance skills. Next to Normal seems like a big swing.

Stephen Schwartz: "Queen of Versailles was a really good show!"

I love opposite day. Let me try.Everyone left Brooklyn humming the tune score not shouted by the cast all.

Ever After Musical

Jun 1, 2026 — 10:44:59 AM

If Beaches made it to Broadway, anything is possible.Looking forward to SuperYou (formerly Chix6), Ever After, and all the other eternally Broadway-bound shows gracing the Great White Way soon.

BRIGADOON in Pasadena

May 21, 2026 — 1:44:16 PM

Listen, as someone who has suffered the book of Brigadoon as a cast member, an audience member, and a pit musician, I know the book could use some work for a modern audience. I'm also not sure how you could do it without gutting the piece and writing essentially a new story in modern times with the same magical disappearing village conceit. The score is lovely, but holy hell do you need to consider trimming down those dance breaks if the choreography is not sensational. I don't care how lovel...

Meg Stalter? Perfect casting. She is the Prettiest Girl in America (album this summer). No, like, I see it. I see this working in new and wonderful ways. Good on her.

CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL Review - 1 Minute Critic

May 4, 2026 — 1:47:03 PM

Yeah, the gender element is a valid question with how ballroom has been presented in media like Pose and Paris is Burning. I remember the reality show Legendary made it a point to cast one all cisgender female team (and a team comprised of the House of Ninja, at that) in the first season so they could discuss their role in the history of ballroom. Regardless of gender, this cast is doing excellent work performing in these vogue and ball styles. And yeah, another not-fan of Cats here. I really ...

2026 New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards

May 1, 2026 — 1:34:49 PM

Yeah, very interesting that Mexodus or Schmigadoon couldn't pull through in a second round of voting. Then again, the two most voted on shows could not be more different from each other, so I suppose an impasse could be possible. I'm not seeing someone who voted for Mexodus swinging to Schmigadoon or vic versa on a second ballot.

Beaches reviews

Apr 30, 2026 — 2:32:43 PM

Well with all the fervor to do community and school productions of Beaches in 2026 and beyond, I'm sure they'll earn some money back before the whole property falls into public domain in another [total life of creator who lives the longest plus 70] years. Sorry that the cast is going on to such empty audiences every show. Happy that they're still getting paid.

Then let the cast dance and sing the hell out of it."Well, when you're a Jim Steinman fan aware that the plot was supposed to be the whole point, that this show was the culmination of a 50-year dream of putting this particular story onstage so that the songs were finally presentedin the context for which the...
