I think the show looks interesting and like it might be quite good, and I'm looking forward to watching it. I'm also a Christian and don't need any person or group telling me and my family what we should or shouldn't watch on tv. I'm glad my local station (which claims to have received "hundreds" of letters in protest of the show) IS airing it. If people don't want to see something, can they not just switch the channel or turn their damn television set off? These people are like "I don't like cake, so nobody else can even have a party." gimme a break...

It's a very good show. As I wrote previously, I saw the pilot at All Saints Church, Pasadena, where some of it was filmed. The writer/creator Jack Kenney was there to discuss the show. It's very liberal in its thinking (which of course I like), plus it shows a side of Christianity (the side which is welcoming to all, and fighting for peace and justice) that is too often usurped by the "religious" right.

Ah, you just hit on the great paradox.
How many times have I heard these far-right Christians complain that the only depiction of Christians from Hollywood is that of narrow-minded bigots. Then, a show comes along that depicts them differently, and how do the fundies react? Like narrow-minded bigots.

Did anyone else watch?
I, for one, enjoyed it, especially the second hour. It is much funnier than I expected. Desperate Housewives for the liberal Christian set.

Posted: 1/6/06 at 11:28pmYep, I watched. It made me laugh out loud alot. I thought of Desperate Housewives several times, too.

Yeah, I'm hooked already ... husband and son also really liked it.
Only prob I have is that it's up against inJustice, which also looked interesting, but guess I can catch that one in reruns later on. We'll be tuning back into Book of Daniel next week too!
Trivial thing, maybe, but I like the stained class montage effect between breaks.

Gosh that show made me crave Vicodin more than usual.
(Good thing Stan Stanley has me blocked so I don't have to get a lecture about my highjacking this thread for further tales of my debauchery.)

HOLD EVERYTHING! There are Asians in the cast!
*gasp*
Is it gonna re-run soon? Now my interest is piqued.

Is he the gay son?
That'll be like me, on TV.

It was interesting, but didn't draw me in.
The Asian was quite cute. As was the non-hetero son.

Is Christian Campbell on the show, too? My cup runneth over! (Though really, in what universe could Campbell still pass for 23?)
So....any idea when this is gonna re-run?

Blue, are you asking when the two-hour premiere (or the two episodes that made it up)is going to re-run? Not sure about that, but a new episode airs next Friday, Jan. 13.
Yep, Christian Campbell's on. btw, I liked seeing Susanna Thompson (as the priest's wife) ... loved her on Once & Again. I think I like her on this show even better.
Wondering if all the eps are going to have one-word titles ... part 1 last night was "Temptation" ... part 2 was "Forgiveness" and the next one's titled "Acceptance."

Posted: 1/7/06 at 9:03amLOVED, LOVED LOVED it!!! Loved it so much I watched it twice! I'm totally hooked. Loved the relationship between the father and his children. I'm not the least bit religious, but I found the show to be inspirational, as well as entertaining. Can't wait 'til next Friday! Hope it's around to piss off the religious right for a long time to come. Halleluiah!!!

It finally did really grab me. In no small part to Aidan Quinn's emotionally accessible work (and he's going the Diane Keaton route in terms of keeping his face his own -- and he looks damned good. The lines and coupla extra pounds -- hey, he was always too skinny -- really work!) Bravo, Jesus. If you listen to His advice, by the way, it's what's sorley lacking in "Christian" dogma today.
Too bad the show took a while to find its rhythm, though. I fear the first hour wasn't ultimately its finest. Pilots are notoriously hard to get right, and too many i's get dotted. The first chuncks was so exposition laden in the first 45 minutes -- if only they'd trust an audience to listen, and pick up pieces of backstory as the scenes fly. Ellen Burstyn baldly announcing her curriculum vitae to Aidan was particularly ham-fisted and wince-worthy.
Then, it just took off, and the family scenes, part AMERICAN BEAUTY, and a lot of SIX FEET UNDER (both Alan Ball) with a soupcon of AMERICAN DREAMS, are terrific.
