Lizzie's movie thread (and Shira's bumped movie thread) made me think about this. Do any of you have any books that you have never read, despite everyone else's assumptions?
I, for one, have never read The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy. I work in a bookstore, and I'm sarcastic, so people naturally assume I've read it. In reality, every time someone says, "Oh, my God, you have to read that book", it adds five more years on to the time it takes me to actually read that book. Hitchhiker's Guide was first recommended to me in fifth grade, and given the number of times it's been recommended to me, I will get around to reading it a decade or so after I die. Anyone have a similar book?

HGTTG is hilarious and a very quick read, at that.
That being said, I've never read Wuthering Heights.

I'm sure it is, and I'm sure I would enjoy it. It's just some bizarre rebellious thing in me. I can't read a book unless it's by my choosing to match my current mood. It actually pisses me off a little. I'd love to have read it and be done with it by now, but everytime I've tried to start it there's been some other book calling out to me. I've accepted it as fate. I'll read it in my own time, when that time is right.

Posted: 6/16/06 at 1:28amOh, I was just randomly commenting about the book itself. I hope that didn't sound bitchy - I'm the same way about reading!

Oh, I didn't take it as bitchy at all! I was just making a further comment. Honestly, I find it as baffling as anyone else that I haven't read it by now.
What really worries me is, I make a good portion of my living off of recommending books to people. Whatever would happen if people were as finicky as me? I'd end up out of a job!

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Pride and Prejudice... hell, I can think of few books by 19th century female authors that I have read.

I've never read Hitch Hiker's Guide, either.
Nor any Victor Hugo novels except Les Misérables.
Googling a few "top 100" lists, I've also never read:
Little Women
Nancy Drew
1984
The Da Vinci Code
Peyton Place
The Animal Farm

I've never read anything by Mark Twain, Jane Austen, Bronte sisters, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo... the list goes on..
I've never read GONE WITH THE WIND. The only book I've read by Charles Dickens is A TALE OF TWO CITIES. I started reading A CHRISTMAS CAROLE, but didn't finish.
Contemporary (anything after 1950, I guess,) novels are my thing.

"Are you there God? It's Me, Margaret"
But I did read all the Ramona and Fudge books. I believe all the Fudge books are at my parents' house still. In fact, you might call me a Fudgepa...never mind.

The Da Vinci Code-A friend was supposed to loan it to me but never got around to it.
Valley of the Dolls-I started it but never finished.
Pride and Prejudice
Gone with the Wind
Nancy Drew
I do like to read, I've just never gotten around to these.

Posted: 6/16/06 at 11:08amI'll bet no one's read the Bible all the way through. Probably not even the pope. Have you ever tried to read 2 Chronicles? The genealogy is about as thrilling as reading the lowest level donor list on the back of a theatre program.

I'm wowed Mandi. Seriously.
I think I read one of the Fudge books. Isn't one about the little brother that jumps off the jungle gym because he thinks he can fly? When he can't, and he loses his front teeth?
And I've read the Bible all the way through. I was in 6th grade, and I read a few chapters a night... I think it took me the whole year.

I've read the Bible all the way through several times. And I know others who have as well.

The Narnia series were really good.. when I was like 8. I doubt I'd like them the same now.
And I started reading the Hobbit, but couldn't finish. Epics are not my thing.

I had the boxed set when I was eight, and I remember only liking two (The Magician's Nephew and Voyage of The Dawn Treader) out of the seven. I just reread them all last year and enjoyed (most of) them immensely.
Although, Susan doesn't get to go to Heaven because she likes makeup and boys? What's up with that crap?
