Go for an independent bookstore! Mine gives employees 40% off of books and 35% off CDs & DVDs.

Plus, indies are more fun. re: Borders bookstore Updated On: 6/22/06 at 05:01 PM

I could never work at a bookstore. I would spend my entire paycheck before I ever got it home, and thus defeat the purpose of having a job at all!

Singingwendy - it's so true. My house is full of unread books! I cant bring myself to get rid of them.

Starting pay depends on location and your experience. It's not usually Minimum wage however. In my experience, the "Cafe" jobs were the hardest ones to fill-- If you don't mind reeking of coffee, you can almost always land a job in the cafe.

Be sure to say in the interview and on the application: "I will work in the cafe!"

It's bad enough that they send me coupons and give me "discount days"......I could never be there daily!

I don't have unread books or CDs ....I read or listen to everything I buy...but I do have tons of books I've read once sitting on the floor near my bed. I really need to go get some bookshelves!

However, that was what happened when I worked in a fabric store. I have several rubbermaid containers full of great fabrics that I had projects planned for that I've never made.

"My house is full of unread books! I cant bring myself to get rid of them. "

I can relate here - I used to do Author Promotions for Barnes and Noble. I have a closet full of autographed first editions that someday I plan to read!

I want to work at a bookstore so badly. But I am fifteen, and to work at Borders you have to be eighteen. It's really annoying. We have no independent bookstores near me, so that's not really an option. ::sigh::

The course of true love never did run smooth.

And some of those independents even have holes!
