I have to leave for work, but I just saw on tv that he will get 5 days of community service and $1000 fine for that last incident where they found drugs in his NY apt. He's not up on drug possession charges because he agreed to go into a drug rehab program.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 12:11pmThanks for posting the link, Dame. I've always been a 'fan on the fence' of George. I like his look, his music, his smarts, his dishiness, but he's been involved in some really heinous incidents which keep me at bay from him.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 12:16pmI have met him too. I think he is adorable in person - just fun to watch from across the room. His mood elevators must have been good that night, because he was very nice to me. But he was also DJing. I think he and George Michael should get together. Seems like a match made in media heaven.

Posted: 3/8/06 at 12:17pmIs it bizarre the the George Michael and Boy George scandals all run together in my head? I don't remember who got caught doing what. If you gave me a matching quiz about them, I'd probably get less than 50 percent right.

He was always nice to me when I used to hang out with him at Squeezebox way back when.
But once an addict, always an addict and frankly I'm glad they opted for treatment over jail. I've never agreed with sending addicts to jail -- they don't get better in there and the drugs are even more plentiful than they are on the outside. Plus, as long as no actual crime was committed by the addict, I just don't see the point of jail for people with a substance abuse problem. We don't jail alcoholics (who cause ten times more harm than cokeheads and heroin addicts combined), so, other than some misguided moralism, why jail drug addicts for simple possession?

Posted: 3/8/06 at 12:34pmI agree Margo - but you know the old addage - "out of sight, out of mind". I think that's the way most problems are solved these days. It's very sad.
