"(CNN) - On March 24, World Vision announced that the U.S. branch of the popular humanitarian organization would no longer discriminate against employees in same-sex marriages.
It was a decision that surprised many but one that made sense, given the organization’s ecumenical nature.
But on March 26, World Vision President Richard Stearns reversed the decision, stating, “our board acknowledged that the policy change we made was a mistake.”
Supporters helped the aid group “see that with more clarity,” Stearns added, “and we’re asking you to forgive us for that mistake.”
So what happened within those 48 hours to cause such a sudden reversal?
The Evangelical Machine kicked into gear."

Evangelicals took to Twitter and Facebook to threaten to stop sending money to their sponsored children unless World Vision reversed course.
Within a day of the initial announcement, more than 2,000 children sponsored by World Vision lost their financial support. And with more and more individuals, churches and organizations threatening to do the same, the charity stood to lose millions of dollars in aid that would otherwise reach the poor, sick, hungry and displaced people World Vision serves.
Just like Jesus would do.

Oh those evil Evangelicals. The same ones who had the power to get Rev. Mike Huckabee elected POTUS. No wait that didn't happen. The same ones who support Hobby Lobby and got contraceptives banned from Obamacare. No wait that didn't happen. The same ones who stopped gay marriage from becoming the law of the land. No wait that didn't happen.
But they did intimidate a charity organization into changing their mind. No wait that didn't happen either and CNN is full of crapola.

Goth, you're welcome to think there's nothing wrong with those objectives. But it's silly to say that because they didn't always succeed they never made the attempt.
The ones who have used religion to keep the people in the most impoverished parts of the country voting for politicians who actively work against their best interest? Yes. That continues to happen.
The Assembly of God church sent word down to all of their churches to stop the donations and remove all sponsorship. It makes ZERO sense in the scheme of what they are supposed to stand for. I have cried more than I should have. People really are cruel and clueless.

You don't like the way evangelicals treat their charities? Start your own charity. Competition is a good thing.
This isn't about how they treat the charity. This is about the general spirit of charity and the entire basis of Jesus' teachings. You can't claim you are a Christian and compassionate if you withdraw the financial support of an orphan in a third world country because the charity made an administrative decision you don't like. Don't like what they do? Let them know. You don't pull the food from a child's mouth that you were willing to provide the previous day. It's about "Christian" hypocrisy.
-A Christian
JG2, you're trying to have a conversation with an admitted racist. Logic isn't something he's exactly capable of.
I was just pointing out the hypocrisy with regards to this issue. I didn't realize we were bringing up a small minority of unrelated issues. Competition may indeed be a good thing. So is highlighting Christian hypocrisy. Not sure why Goth is taking this rather odd stance other than to be ANTI just for the sake of being ANTI. Sure, this church can do what they want with their charities. And we can discuss opinions on it. Is that what is bothering Goth?

You're right. They didn't in that instance. Doesn't change their rise to major political influence during the Reagan administration and peaking during Dubya. Doesn't mean they will stop trying. And it doesn't relate to the topic at hand.

Uh...gay marriage isn't the law of the land. Who do you think is preventing it from become legal in MOST US STATES? Hipsters? Socialists? Chinese Communists? Oh, and it doesn't mean they will stop trying. And it doesn't relate to the topic at hand.
But I am curious as to why this topic isn't worthy of debate. Are you a devout follower of Pat Robertson? Because then I could probably put your response in perspective.

"But I am curious as to why this topic isn't worthy of debate."
Who said it wasn't worthy of debate? Your problem, like many others here, is that if people aren't agreeing with you your underwear gets all knotted.
Sorry, my fault, Goth. I forgot you don't answer questions or say things that actually make sense. Never mind.
No ones panties are twisting because of people disagreeing. They are PISSED because it's HYPOCRISY. A person who would do what these people did is not a Christian. As in, one who follows Christ's teachings. They may claim to be a follower of the Old Testament, but Jesus, the prophet that all of these people claim to follow, taught about giving charitably and loving before anything else. Never once did he say, "Don't give to that person if the person handing out the money is doing something you disagree with." It's ridiculous. It's UNchristian.

There are a lot of people who call themselves something and then don't act the way other people think they should. Nancy Pelosi calls herself a Catholic but is pro-abortion. Why not start a thread about her hypocrisy?
Because pro-choice is not pro-abortion.

Is the Catholic Church pro-choice? If the Catholic Church is pro-life and Nancy Pelosi calls herself a Catholic, then she's a hypocrite is she is pro-choice.
Or she's a Catholic who disagrees with the church's teaching on that topic. That doesn't make her a hypocrite. Possibly a heretic.
She'd be a hypocrite if she claimed to be anti-choice but had an abortion.
Goth, your constant posting of, "Well... Well.. Well, so and so did something COMPLETELY unrelated and you didn't speak up" is very tiresome. It's like you just plug in different people and scenarios. You never actually respond to the discussion at hand.
In response to your ridiculous comparison, Nancy Pelosi doesn't claim to be pro-choice BECAUSE she's a catholic. She believes in a woman's right to control her own body DESPITE being Catholic. These "Christians" are withholding charitable donations (along with a plethora of other political and social behavior designed to keep gay people from having rights) all in the name of Christianity.
Christ said loving one another was more important than anything short of loving God. He never spoke one word about gay people. The bible doesn't have one verse that even comments on committed gay couples. The verses that may or may not be about homosexuality are on par with the other mentions of sex outside of marriage. The idea that being gay is the be all, end all of eternal damnation is something preachers have come up with in pulpits. All of these "Christians" who are freaking out and drawing their lines in the sand over gay people are incredibly misguided. They are giving Christianity a bad name. They are ignoring the very teachings of Christ. With or without the faith, there is beauty in Christ's teachings. These people are bastardizing it.
Is the Catholic Church pro-choice? If the Catholic Church is pro-life and Nancy Pelosi calls herself a Catholic, then she's a hypocrite is she is pro-choice.
That's as much an example of hypocrisy as rain on your wedding day is an example of irony.
"It's about Christian hypocrisy."
Agreed.
These people preach the doctrines of grace but have none of the grace of the doctrines.
